I've been flying rockets the last two days at NARAM-48 and thought I would post pictures from two of my flights from today, Monday.

There were two special visitors to the field. I asked one of them to pose with each of my rockets before flight.

Then I took a static on-the-pad picture.

A launch photo.

Here's pictures of my 1340 flight. Motor was an AeroTech E15-7W.

My second rocket was the the Neubauer Orion II.

It was flown with an AeroTech E15-4W motor.

Me three!

No, make it four!!

BTW, while some of you guys are there in Phoenix, can you see if you can get Lee and Vern to
join some of these rocketry forums and chat with us sometimes?! I see on the NARAM Live
website that a lot of the longtime greats are in attendance...

(Wishing I was there)

Looks like you'd be better off just posting a link where one might find the caps.

Those pics of your friend out on the field are *priceless!* :D

I was poking around in Monday's pictures at the NARAM Live site (http://naramlive.nerys.com/naramlive/04monday/04.html), and I came across this candid picture of the other special visitor. ;) :D

Cheers,

Yes, Betty was out on the flying field.

She was passing out leftover bottles of "Centuri" water from Lee's presentation the night before.

Speaking of Betty: I couldn't resist sending these pics, of yours truly with Betty, Vern and Gleda; Bob with hs fabulous Orion, with Lee looking on (can't believe I just barely got him in the pic); and yours truly again (ego, ego....) with Gary Rosenfield and Lee. And wait... there's more: A pic of Lee signing Chas Russell's Hustler. A beautiful rocket, indeed.

Bob, by the way, has been flying some truly fabulous rockets as you can tell from the Orion photo. (And his very limited quantity Enerjet hats have been a hot item. You'll notice Lee and Gary are wearing them in the pics.) And I must say, those Semroc versions of the Hustler, Aero-Dart, etc. are beautiful beyond belief.

Speaking of Betty: I couldn't resist sending these picsDear Mark,

I have to confess, now I'm *really* bummed that I couldn't make it to this year's NARAM. These are some *great* pictures, and now I can't wait to see the NARAM-48 coverage in LAUNCH magazine!

BTW, Mark, at least now I could probably pick you out of a Rocketeer's Lineup.  ;) :D

Cheers, and everybody have fun at NARAM,

I am hugely bummed I could not go to NARAM as well...at least next year it is in Michigan....I WILL be there !

Wish that was the one Lee/Betty and Vern/Gleda would attend !

Tell Chas that I said to have a beer for me while he's down there baking in AZ. Tell him I still have one of his Rahr & Sons Ugly Pug Black Lager that I'm saving for a "special occasion". :D

Scott,
I'll definitely pass that along to Chas, and will post a few more pics when I get a second. Back out to Rainbow Valley right now (which is as beautiful as advertised, by the way). Even the heat isn't sooo bad, considering it's actually hotter (and much more humid) in New York this week. Nice to be here and not there at the moment.

Wish you were all here!!!

Dear Mark,

BTW, Mark, at least now I could probably pick you out of a Rocketeer's Lineup.  ;) :D

Jay,

Yeah, it's that other kind of lineup I'm trying to avoid. :D

Lee not only mentioned you at his talk, but also said to tell you "hello" when I paid him a visit a day later at his hobby shop. And it was great to have him out at the launch site. Now he's off to Alaska on his annual fishing trip. (Packing Bob's Enerjet hat, and a LAUNCH hat and shirt!! Hopefully the fish won't mind.)

Cheers,

Mark,

I can't believe you didn't get Lee in my picture, either. ;)

I took Thursday off from the flying field to visit some old haunts of mine from when I lived in Phoenix (1987-1988). The place sure has changed!

I made one special stop while in Phoenix. I dropped by the 'secret' Lee & Betty Piester business HQ. :D

Lee had already left on his annual fishing trip to Alaska but Betty was there. We talked for awhile and then I brought in the Enerjet 1340 flight clone I had built.

I presented it to Betty and asked if she and Lee would accept it. Betty said yes. She even posed with the model (On the special display stand I had made for my 1340 clones (Thanks Tom Quinn @ Q-Modeling!)) so I could take pictures. Betty asked me to autograph the model.

Betty said she wouldn't tell Lee about the 1340 until he came back from his vacation. ;)

Betty told me that Lee really enjoyed NARAM. I hope this means he will show up at future rocketry events.

Bob,
That's a great gesture. He'll love that 1340. (Hey, I'll be over your way to see those in-flight videos soon...)
Quite a NARAM, indeed!

Yeah, it's that other kind of lineup I'm trying to avoid. :D When typing that sentence, I suddenly realized that "*police* lineup" was *not* the expression I was looking for.

Lee not only mentioned you at his talk, but also said to tell you "hello" when I paid him a visit a day later at his hobby shop. And it was great to have him out at the launch site.Wow. I mean, *wow!* As I mentioned elsewhere, I need to drop Lee and Betty a personal letter Real Soon Now... Like, Before Christmas. :o

Now he's off to Alaska on his annual fishing trip. (Packing Bob's Enerjet hat, and a LAUNCH hat and shirt!! Hopefully the fish won't mind.)If they do, I'm sure the fish won't taste very good.

I mean, "have good taste." ;)

"I saw photos of all the posterboards that Lee had on display at NARAM. He really got on a roll after we wound him up at NARCON."

Mark,

Did you get photos of Lee's displays? Just wondering.

Cheers,

Jay,

I did get photos of the display and you can also see Chris Taylor's very detailed photos of it at naramlive.com. I think they're on the Sunday night posting there. Very nice display . I casually :) mentioned to Lee that he should put this stuff on powerpoint. The funniest part of Lee's talk was when he said that once, he grabbed a Centuri catalog hot off the press, wrapped it in a (crying) towel and sent it to Vern. :D He also said that he and Vern once bet each other $100 on who could lose the most weight by the time they saw each other again. Lee won and Vern paid off over dinner one night by putting 10,000 pennies in some sort of centerpiece on the table. Very funny, especially because he was telling all this with Vern there. That was a special evening. And of course, you were mentioned as we have discussed. I believe Lee is back for good now. You truly started something. ;)

It was great talking with you at NARAM.

I think LAUNCH magazine has a lot of potential.

I can't wait to see the next issue. :D

Was it *really* 4 years ago?

I talked with Betty earlier this week (she sounded like she'd had a tough day), and she sent me a package at work. She was pretty mysterious on the phone, but she sent a "pre-release" copy of the first issue of LAUNCH, 4 of the "keep your cool" necklaces Lee is seen wearing in Bob's shots from the flight range (one for each of my family members), and a bottle of "Centuri water." (Actually, Betty poured out the water, which would have made everything else soggy, but I have the souvenir bottle.)

And BTW Mark, you need a Letters column in LAUNCH! :D

Bob,
It was great seeing you, and watching your fleet at NARAM. And that old video of Gary Rosenfield talking about the history of motors was a real treat. Thanks much!

I just got home this evening. It sounds like you're back in CA as well. It was a great week.

All best,

Cheers,

Absolutely. So "keep those cards and letters coming in." We'll definitely begin a letters column with the second issue of LAUNCH. That's wild that Betty sent you an official Piester NAR water bottle. I shipped back a couple of them myself--along with a lot of other stuff--including two of Semroc's latest releases, the Hustler and the Aero-Dart. And my suitcase was so full I had to stand on top of it to get it to close! :)

You can tell I'm still on Arizona time... It's 1:26 am here in New York.

Cheers,
Mark

He told us the same stories at NARCON. Yes, they were funny. ;)
