Got started on another prototype yesterday. Actually been wanting to do this for a long time!

Again, sorry about the bad pictures. Not my day for holding still.

Details, Details, Details!

It is a cardstock (hopefully flyable) version I've been working on.

I ended up putting two small fins on the bottom after looking at the Estes rocket. But, the top is a lot more simple. I thought the Estes version was a bit chunky. So, the command center on top is actually a hollow rectangle.

I never did like the commercial rockets with a foot long tube sticking out. Might end up being completely unstable. Then again, I thought the same thing about the Icarus...

I have often wondered if I could weight the nose enough, on the original Estes, to make it stable, without the long probe. And then if it would be light enough to still fly!

I designed this around a BT-20, but BT-5 on a 1/2A might fly better. I just didn't have a BT-5 handy to work with.

And I figured, if a Cubit can fly this should too! That is why I designed the rear tower as a triangle shaped fin instead of being more accurate to the model. And, it only has one deck level instead of 3 or 4.

One deck level, on top and bottom, adds strength and detail without making it look like a brick.

I'll put up my prototype files and maybe someone can come up with an idea or two!
____________

There is a gray line on the body where a BT-20 should end. I glued the rear (engine) piece on and ran a tube to have something solid to hold while building. I couldn't come up with a good way to make a cone, so I'm going with rear ejection and tumble recovery for now.
_________

P.S. There are some places that may not have tabs yet. You may have to add your own! The sides of the deck were to small for natural tabs. I cut little strips to add.

that looks sick! i really need to learn how to do that!

EDIT: also, is there a bottom, or do i just print out 2 of the top?

EDIT 2: nevermind. i figured it out

EDIT 3: i printed it out and all i get is the glue tab on the first page and the words that are typed next to the peices on the second page

Sounds like a printer driver problem if it looks OK on the screen. Or you are very low on black ink...

But yes, you print the first page twice!

ya it wasnt till after i posted that i saw the X2. its not the printer because,

1: it has a brand new ink cartrige in it and

2: after i gave up on this, i printed out the icarus and it worked fine

I'll have to wait and see if anyone else has a problem. If so, I'll recompile the pdf.

I downloaded and printed fine on another computer. Could be your downloads are corrupted.

I would suggest downloading them again to a different folder!

Shades of gray use other colors in them on most printers. Manly blue...

I will convert the first page to all black and see what happens.

yup that worked!

I would say it is a printer problem then!

Here is a black version of page 2 just to mess with until you get a new color cartridge.

Sweet! ill give you some feedback as i build it. i dont know if it will work or not because im on my phone. but i will print it and build it once i get on a computer. and also, thanks for altering it for me man! i wish i had the skills to do that

Well i built it and let me say, it looks great! only one suggestion. you should label ALL of the parts. i had trouble figuring out what the bottom fins were. i finally figured it out though. i built mine around a C6-5. probably overkill, but hey, whats it matter? pics to come probabably. also trying to figure out how to make a motor mount that will eject with the motor and pull out a streamer or chute. also, im surprised im the only one interested in this

mycrofte

Like I said, it is in the prototype stage at this time. I hope to get it labeled better.

I too was trying to figure out a way for the engine to drag out a streamer. Nothing good yet!

Turned out pretty slick for black & white!

And, your pictures are much better than mine.

Here are the latest updates. Take a look and tell me what you think. I am currently building this version and not sure of it yet.

Had to break it down into three pages to get some kind of instructions in there!

I was wondering if you figured out how to balance it. I was thinking of BB's in the nose but didn't want the glue to warp the cardstock.

It would seem, doing a swing test on an odd shape isn't fool-proof. The first flight ended up with whirling loops of death...

Haven't much got into cardstock rocketry, but in a bit of a twist cardstock rocketry has gotten into me: being the creator of the webtoon 'Stone Trek' I've had enthusiasts out there capitalize on my creations... the stoneship U.S.S. Magnetize (BCC-1701)!
