I am just about done with a prototype destroyer from the original BSG.

Hope to post a picture tomorrow!

It isn't much to look at yet. Still getting the shapes right. The only real change I have made is moving the wings back to be fins.

Been working on adding color today. I'm almost afraid to start the nose cone.

VERY Nice !

I don't think I have ever seen an attempt at modeling the Eastern Alliance Destroyer.

Are you using cardstock and thin balsa for the top part of the body?

Are you using cardstock and thin balsa for the top part of the body?

I designed it for balsa fins with cardstock decals. That should make it stronger and have some detail. I added an option to use just cardstock to since the parts are already there. There is a balsa template that could be used as a stiffener instead of balsa.

But, the body is entirely cardstock. Not counting the BT-20 tube...

VERY Nice !

I don't think I have ever seen an attempt at modeling the Eastern Alliance Destroyer.

I tried to make this model using Paper Models over a year ago but I did not get very far. I decided to try using the plastic models like the original built model. I'm still collecting the models needed to complete my plastic model build.
Here is a pic of the paper models and of the plastic model.

I think that is the same picture I'm making mine from. Although, I am making it a bit more box like so anyone can build it. And to keep it from taking 6 months to finish...

I have built 3 of them now and need some fresh eyes on it.

im in the same boat as you. warning. grey is NOT made of black and white. its mostly blue. so if you dont have colored ink, you wont be able to see anything grey

Thought I would go ahead and put up the next page for you.

I am currently building two variations of the nose/bridge section. One is more accurate the other is easier to build.

Hope you can print enough of them in B&W to use!

Here are some pictures of what I have so far. I'm doing final tweaks on the 2 nose/bridge pieces.

As you can see, I have added a second set of wings (fins) angled with the lower nacelles.

The simple nose here isn't finished enough to attach.

No one posted, but I thought you might be ready for the fins at this point.

On mine, I left the edges flat and painted them with Italian Sage to match the rest.

I plan on buying color ink on Thursday(payday) I'll try printing/building then. Looks good so far. Will you add wings to the Nose Cone?

Will you add wings to the Nose Cone?

No, it is more of a "stepped on" football. So, the wings are built in. And I wanted to minimize the canard affect and have it shooting all over the place.

Ok here is my stab at it. I got ink! Now I cut, you follow!

mycrofte

Before you get to far. My tube length is measured, but it doesn't "look" right on the rocket.

I thought you might try different lengths and see what you think.

Also, I left the detail lines running across the white "glue" part of the nacelles to help with alignment. They have to be as perfectly square as you can get them.

Since you have ink now, I'll put up what I have for a bridge.

Brian,

So far, so good.
I don't know what you plan for instructions, but may I suggest a number system, such as glue flap #1, #2, #3 ...ect. For the nacelle, I started with the front, top at the folded side and worked my way back.

dlazarus6660
04-27-2012, 09:35 AM
It going good so far.

I noticed something about the wings, that you did not include the pointed spike tips.
Here is the download of the Buck Rogers Thunderfighter for clarity.
Page 6 (Blatt 6)

Also, if you want you could add so depth or airfoil to the wings.

On the nacelles, I did the long edge first and closed the ends. With that done, it is easier to keep the whole box square while gluing the ends. Or, easier for me...

As for the wing tips, I figured that was just one more thing to get broken or mangled, like the plastic X-Wing fighters.

That, and, anyone can use a wooden dowel to make them if they choose.

Once it gets done, what are you going to "destroy" with it ?
That's the most fun part !

dlazarus6660

I have not glued the BT to the EAD yet. No idea how long the BT should be?

Is this a little too long?

How far out the back end should it be?
I have it to the edge of the tapered bottom nacelles.

mycrofte
04-27-2012, 11:55 AM
While I had put 7.25" on page 1, I am now going with 8" total length.

This gives about 1/2" from the rear of the upper nacelle. Or, 1/2" short of the tapered ones. With an engine hook, I hope, that gives the engine space to burn and NOT take the cardstock with it...

Other than that, adjust it to what you think looks right.

This is as far as I have gotten myself. The only BT-20 I have is a thick tube and doesn't fit right.

And, I have built about 8 nose/bridges, trying to get that right...

So with the combined total of the BT and the motor hook I have a 1/2" hanging out the back.

So with the combined total of the BT and the motor hook I have a 1/2" hanging out the back.

With everything installed, I have the hook coming out 3/4" out from the upper hull section. But not quite reaching the tapered end.

Brian,

I built one of the nose cones this A.M.Also I glued the paper strip to the neck of the BT.
What did you use for the rest of the BT? Paint or paper? May I suggest adding a green colored strip for the remainder of the BT parts.
Here is where I am on my build.

I keep a lot of water based paint for war game miniatures (the tubes with a flip top). I painted my BT Italian Sage then glued on the paper detail strip.

They all came out blurry. Even on the decent ones, all you can see is the smoke billowing under the launch pad.

Do you thunk it needs nose weight?

mycrofte
07-03-2012, 11:37 AM
Yeah, I put BB's in mine with a hot glue gun. Did a fair swing test after that.

My swing test might not have been accurate due to the string on an odd shaped rocket. Might also have been from the wide nose acting like a canard.
