Here's the latest info on Quest that I just received from my hobby industry insider:

Price increases happen soon.

2013 Proteus and 3009 M2Q2 discontinued.

They will introduce the Quest Advanced Rocketry Line at the Chicago iHobbyExpo.

No firm word on the 18 mm D's?

I would guess that the 18mm 'D' will be part of the Advanced Rocketry Line to be shown at the iHobby Expo. This line would probably include the two new kits, launch pad and controller which were shown at the NARAM-48 Manufacturer's Forum.

They'll probably show that V.E.E.P. (TARC jr.) product as well. Listed but few details on their current website.

The latest "firm" word arrived in the mail yesterday and indicated formal roll out at a toy/hobby show in November with shipment in January.

Production has begun.

6 packs of standard motors are available for educators.

B6-2 is back.

6 packs of standard motors are available for educators.

Is that currently available through the website? If not, did they indicate a price and availability date?

Never mind -- I just looked on the website and found it. Thanks.

I just KNEW the pricing of the Quest 18mm composite D was going to be ASININE !
$23.99 retail for a two pak....what a freekin' joke.
Even if it is discounted 25% off of that it is $18/2 or $9 each.
Good luck in selling them at even that price.
I'd much rather pay the $14 or so for THREE RMS18 D reloads or $10 for 3 17n-sec Estes 24mm BP D's.
That price is just as high if not higher than the SU Aerotech 18mm D's.
I can buy a Three pak of RMS 24 50n/sec F39's for around $20.00.
I bet unless they get their pricing down to within 125% of the price of a 3pak of Estes D's, these won't last more than a couple of years.
Perfect time to start delivering a new motor too....FEBRUARY ??????
If these cost the same as the Aerotech 18mm SU D, and are made by Aerotech, WHY is this product even needed ? Also, as these are virtually the same as the Aerotech D, what was all the holdup for making them available ? Could NOT have been any sort of value-engineering study to eliminate cost with these prices. Originally I think they were supposed to be available in Spring of 2006.

What they SHOULD have done is re-created the 1970's 18mm BP Cox 13 n-sec D8-3 and D8-0 and sold them for $7.99/3-pak. Now that would be a cost-effective USEFUL SU BP engine.

Answers to most of these are known or obvious.

RMS costs a LOT more when you lose the casing. BIG problem for average American beginner toy store rocket customers.

RMS has an age limit higher than a D motor.

Casing and delay is re-engineered for easier manufacturing (and hopefully reliability).

Quest has a larger retail distribution reach than Aerotech. Didn't we cover this already in previous discussion or was that on TRF? Anyway, the motor is much more compatable with the Quest product line than the large heavy Aerotech rockets.

Distribution chain has mark-ups at at least 2 levels so the retail price is set high. most discount retailers will sell them for less and the individula price will end up almost the same as the current Aerotech single use D21. Adjusted for inflation, naturally.

For actual answers to these burning questions, phone themin to Quest directly, or type up a message and send it to them. Let us know what they say.
