This is something I think you will like, the Johnny Star Commander model Shrocket. BT-50 diameter. If there is enough interest I'll get back in kit production.

The name makes me chuckle every time I see it - anyone remember the Dan Ackroyd SNL skit where he is under fire for his toy company's offerings? Specifically the "Johnny Space Commander" mask? That was some funny stuff.

Are they essentially laser cut parts, a fancy waterslide decal set as the main features of the kit? BTW spacecraft don't need air scoops. :D

By adding more than one vehicle number, and several cute names to the decal sheet you could have a "collect all 10" sales pitch. People insist on naming vessels.

I assume the scope, wings, and winglets are for the normal atmospheric take off and landings ;)

Shrox - how many replies do you need before you pull the trigger on the kits?
We want it!

And more when you have other kits!

Doug,

Are you going to sell your new designs under your own company or go through an existing rocket manufacturer?

Doug,

Right now I am looking for a nose cone supplier. That's the most expensive part of a kit, and is kind of the one thing I have to work around as far as designs are concerned.

Assuming the kit comes in a plastic bag, you should throw in the rubber band for free.

Oh Friend, but I stabbed a ping pong ball with a rocket.

(The comment about the cell phone is just how I like to twist puns around. I was saying we could be two of kind. Like my Mom always said, if you pick at your food it will never heal.)

I asked about the kit components because it seems to me a kit manufacturer could make all your many oddball kits if they stocked up on face cards, instructions, decals, and sourced the parts for manufacture. I guess you tried that with Estes and Apogee for a while but since the kits are not readily available, you seem to lack a well capitalized manufacturing licensee willing to stick with the concept.

Just Jerry

Yup, doesn't count if they're on the inside. :p

After NAR sanctioned contests we used to run "Egg Toss" which is an egg capsule with the nose cone off. An egg probably is usable as a altitude determination tool, but since ping pong balls are very carefully engineered for consistent aerodynamic performance, they are the reference unit.

Cutting ping pong balls is probably either a crime or a party foul, but that doesn't stop the outside the box thinkers.

That said, putting a PPB on top of an equivalent Egg Toss rocket sized to PPB is an interesting experiment in proximate audience model rocketry.

I've flown rockets indoors, have you? Football stadiums don't count. A house. A shop.

Maybe an 18mm/24mm adapter could be fun too, although I like to go all out. Anything less than 20 football fields makes me worry...

An 18mm adapter for small areas sounds good. Doubtful I would use less than a C5-3 unless field was really small.

Shrox, have you considered a Kickstarter for the design? That way, you might be able to raise the capital, promote the project more widely, and have a concrete amount of preorders.

Might be worth the experiment.

I have received two PMs from two different people about funding, then no response...kind of worried about one of them. I wish they would at least respond so I know they are not dead.

I thought about Kickstarter, but I was waiting for the PMers to reply. I guess I should move ahead then.

AcroRay

I think you should go with Kickstarter. You could budget out the project to include or not include decals, or offer decals as an add-on, etc. You've certainly got the artwork to show the final product.

I've seen some cazy-successful Kickstarters. There's a Robotech tactical game I'm currently supporting that started at a 70K goal, and has reached over a half-million dollars making more options and more materials possible in the product (or as add-ons):

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rrpgt/robotech-rpg-tacticstm

Seems to be a good system. I've pledged into book projects that have moved from paperbacks to hardcover, added color pages & etc beyond their initial ventures as well.

Excellent!!! About how much will the price be?

10,000 quatloos!

(A quatloo is a monetary unit on the planet Triskelion, often used by the planet's Providers to bet on drill thrall competitions. Captain Kirk won of course.)

Not sure what that will be in US dollars.
