Yes, that's an intriguing little mystery. Car batteries? Solar arrays? Cell phone chargers? Wind turbines? Water wheels? Hamster treadmills? Radioisotope thermoelectric generators? Potato batteries? Uncle Al's pacemaker?

NiMh or the even better LiPo.

.... well any of those if you can connect them to the little input port inside the battery compartment. But it's intended for a small 8+ cell NiMh/NiCd or 3 cell Li-Poly squeezed in between the springs for the C cells.
