Got home from work this morning to find the remains of an Estes Hi-Flier and a note on the kitchen table. It seems my daughter was packing for her LA trip and squashed the Estes Hi-Flier that I had been working on this weekend. (Actually I had been working on it since 2001 or so. I didn't care for the paint and started over.) I had the body tube painted Testor's Dark Red and was in the process of masking the fins off to paint them with black metallic. She did a number on it. Crushed one fin, broke another completely off, and flattened the whole rear tube. The note said "hope you can fix it." No way, Jose. That bird went directly to the garbage. Did not pass GO, did not collect any more paint. :( Guess I'll be in the market for another one.

The good thing is that the Hi-Flyer is still available.

Yeah, I kept the nose cone, but the engine hook was BENT!
I think she was packing her petrified elephant turd collection.

I bought a Hi-Flyer last year just for the nose cone. I did use the body tube and launch lug too, but it was the nose cone I needed (http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showthread.php?t=13017).

(I used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby. Until the Estes sale in December it was the cheapest kit I've bought.)

Still gotta paint that thing.

I bought a Tornado to make a Tornado. Sarah hasn't killed that one because I hid it so well that even I don't know where it is at the moment. :o

I had the same problem for about an hour after I launched mine.

If you fly them on 1/2A6-2 s, you don't have that problem. I have flown my Twister on an A8-5 once, and I still had to walk about a quarter mile to get both parts. (It was pretty windy that day.)

I'd venture to guess your launch site did not have grass more than a couple inches tall, and that it was pretty flat.

Mine landed maybe a couple hundred feet away and turned invisible.
