Here are the rules for the "Take the Stage" Triathlon on August 2, 2014

This year the triathlon will be flown with one 2 stage rocket which will be flown in all 3 events. Chad staging will not be allowed. The booster must be constructed to hold the specified motor for each event. The sustainer will contain an A impulse motor for all 3 events. The events for your rocket entry will be the following:

1. Parachute duration with an A impulse motor in the booster to an A impulse motor in the
sustainer.
2. Spot landing with a B impulse motor in the booster to an A impulse in the sustainer.
3. Streamer duration with a C impulse motor in the booster and an A impulse motor in the
sustainer.

Motors may be either Estes or Quest black powder motors. Motor adapters are allowed if you wish to use a 13mm motor in an 18mm rocket.

You must recover all the parts of your rocket after each flight. You may ask others to help you keep track of your booster and sustainer but the entire rocket must be returned in a flyable condition for your flight to count. If a part is lost you will be disqualified.

Once disqualified you are out of the rest of the competition.

Points will be awarded for the top 3 flights. 3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, and 1 point for 3rd place. The winner of the triathlon will be the flyer with the highest total points after the 3 events.

All rockets that successfully fly in all 3 events will be judged for best rocket as voted on by all those in the contest. These rockets will be judged on workmanship and design.

There will be a prize for 1st place in the triathlon and also a prize for best successful rocket. I will be announcing the prizes shortly.

Any questions let me know.

Thanks

Dan

I initially thought I was barred from competition due to my name, but I now see you meant Ch.A.D, not Chad. I'll put a spring or two on anyway, YaY! :D

Chad not allowed.

Remember to build your rocket the night before if you want to win. I have all my parts on order for mine. I should see a big box on Friday.

Maybe next year we have a build it the night before at the place we have the X-mas party and then fly it the next day at the Sod Farm Triathlon.

mmmmmmmmmmmm

The Triathlon at the Sod Farm is just around the corner. Almost time to start building. I have picked up the prizes for the Triathlon:

1st place overall will receive an Estes Ascender PS II E2X kit including the booster upgrade for 2 stage flights.

The award for best surviving rocket will be a pack of Estes E-16-6 motors.

See you on the field.

Debating how light or heavy to go myself. Might be a good year to go for broke...... or not depending on the wind. mmmmmmmmmm.

Don't go for broke. If you succeed, you'll be disqualified.

The wind may be like last year ENE. That will limit things.
Just have to get past the parachute and then we can let loose.

I think I will add a spring to the payload section to guaranty victory.

Primer and base paint coat finished. Had to use some vintage Krylon to dry fast enough. Masking now for top coat.

My rocket is built and Alex's rocket is built. Tomorrow is all in one paint and primer day and make streamer and parachutes day at the plant with Alex. I picked up a couple extra stop watches and will gather everything together Friday night. Looks like low winds from the NE like last year so that will make things interesting. Looking forward to getting things going.

See you there.

It was a perfect day for a rocket competition. We had no winds so everyone went for broke in order to win. Rookie Alex J. won first place overall with 7 points. Joe K. won second place with 4 points, and Jerome B. took 3rd place with a score of 3.5. Best model awards went to Paul K. It was fun to see all the different strategies that were employed as some worked great and others ….not so great :D

Fun event, great people, great weather= a great day!
