Both the Thor-Agena and the SPEV use the TA-5260C; Carl shows it on his list, only with a status of "Back Ordered". It will be interesting to see whether Semroc will kit the Thor-Agena, and whether the same scheme for the clear plastic fin assembly will be used. The same kitting question can also be asked for the K-39 Semi-Scale Saturn V, now that the balsa nose for this kit is available.

Should Carl also decide to kit the Colonial Viper, then Semroc would have all four kits in play that incorporated BT-52 as part of the model.

The original Estes Gemini-Titan with the two-motor cluster used the slip fit clear plastic fins as well. I'd like to see that come out down the road, too.

Well, since we're on the subject of parts, why not open up a bit of discussion here for Carl?

We've just mentioned a couple of old kits that used clear acetate sheet as the stock for clear fins; Scott mentions the K-21 GT, which also falls into the same camp. Later model kits used a one piece, clear styrene bayonet mounted fin can (e.g.: #1916 MX Missile, #1918 Titan II, #1978 Gemini Titan) to solve the same problem.

So what's the consensus? If Carl were to consider kitting some of these old "finless" kits, should Semroc stay with the old sheet acetate method, or is there some other preferred method we would like to see? Would we be willing to pay more for a more sturdy fin can? Do we even care if the plastic is clear when the thing's flying, so long as it's removable for display? Etc. Etc.

What say you all?

It's also quite a coincidence. Earlier in the day Saturday, I was taking measurements off DARS' VP Royce Frankum's Cineroc for cloning. But now, if I do a 1:1 scale, I'll be sending you an order instead :) (I am planning to do a 1.4x upscale which I'll turn myself.)

While we're on the subject of cameras, if any of you are interested, DARS' Mike Calhoun was showing some videos at the meeting Saturday all recorded using a _re-usable_, hacked CVS "one-time-use" camera. The quality was superb - much better than anything I've downloaded from the web - IOW, quite good enough to be the source for creating lower-res downloadables. After all, we all wanna be able to send Mom a link to our newest vids, right :)

Unfortunately, this camera fits better in a rectangular housing and so won't be Faux Cineroc payload. But at $30, it offers ~20 minutes of recording time - plenty long enough to sit on the rod for 15 minutes and still get the whole flight. IOW, no special launch-detect-trigger electronics are needed. Just turn it on when you put the rocket on the pad, then tell the LCO he's got 15 minutes to launch. Since there's no need for extra electronics, there's also no need to hack a start-stop switch into the camera, either. And for video, I'm told you don't need a surface mirror, so there's no hard to find parts required. I'm still learning - need to get the download cable and software hack - but I'm convinced this is a do-able, straightforward project.

Anyway, we plan to use the Boostervision gear in the Faux Cineroc, but we're also gonna give the CVS thing a shot.

I have been working on a laser-cut plywood mount for the Boostervision camera along with a resin scale external mirrow holder to work with the balsa reproduction. Hopefully, for NSL 2007! Pete Deaver is building an Omega prototype.

That CVS camera looks like an interesting and doable project. They were selling the some wireless cameras and receivers at my local Wally world that were identical to the Boostervision
rigs. Although, I haven't looked recently to see if the still had any. They were reasonably priced...around 80 dollars or so, and are marketed as security cameras. There looked like a couple easy mods(just a screw or two) to get the little camera pod loose from the mount. Don't know what Boostervision charges for their's, I just know what they look like after seeing Dr. Zooch's in person. I probably should have picked one up when I saw them. I'll check again next time I'm in.

I'm sure a better antenna could be adapted to the receiver somehow to increase the 600 ft LOS range(which is about the same as the standard Boostervision).
