Well my 3 year old brother who loves rockets found the prize money egg at Easter. What did he want to get? A rocket ofcourse. Well we went to the store and and he got his Baby Bertha and I found some very wanted engines. They had the C5-3, B6-0, and all C11 motors in stock. No this is not a joke. So did Estes really discontinue them or does this store just have an incredible stock year after year? Sorry to boast. :D

The date codes on the motors will prove that they are very old stock.

If the C5-3 motors were made in year "X" they will blow your rocket to bits. This will be your final warning.

What's with the year X? I didn't have enough money to get any today, but have never had any problems with the past 6 or 7 packs. Was that just a bad batch year?

Year "X" was the bad year for C5-3's that resulted in their demise.
That batch had something like a 50+% CATO rate.

Wonder why they didn't just tweak the manufacturing rather than getting rid of an entire engine line?

What were C5-3's particularly good for?

They had a much higher initial thrust so they could lift heavier rockets off the launch rod safely because they reached a safe speed.

C11 does that now, but it does it fatter.

Thank you very much (http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/multimedia/pc-sounds/thankyou.wav)!

I agree that the C11-3 does the job of the C5-3 now, but at a cost that I consider to be of a rip-off level.....those should cost only $0.10 more per pak than a C6-3 due to the additional cardboard, but NOOOOOOOO.....they are on average over $2.00 a pak more than the C6-3.....I just buy D12-3's instead...much better value for the money.
In case anyone from Estes is reading this, BRING BACK THE C5-3 !!!!!
I don't count on this from Estes, but thank goodness we have companies like Semroc that actually listen to and cater to hobbyist rocketeers....I know Semroc will bring out WANTED engines that WE want once they start making engines again !!!

It seems to be hinted at in Carl's thread, but do we know that that's in the works? It sure would be comforting to know. I enjoy the thought of supporting those who truly support us, from the heart. I have a great deal of respect for Estes employees, but from what I can tell the head man may as well be selling viagra knock offs or any other widget.
