As if my building backlog isn't big enough, I've won a PDR Satellite Interceptor (http://www.omus.net/pdbb/viewtopic.php?t=106) for suggesting (http://www.omus.net/pdbb/viewtopic.php?t=104) the winning formula for their 3rd anniversery sale! My son is going to REALLY dig it when I show him these pictures (http://omus.net/pdbb/viewtopic.php?t=85&highlight=satellite+interceptor) of what's on it's way to our spaceport!

As soon as I saw that I went Googling for more info on the Satellite Interceptor to show him, and found yet another awesome story from Wallyum (http://www.rocketreviews.com/featured/eichelberger.shtml)! Scroll down to Tell me an interesting rocket related experience!

One of my favorites. I've got an original that I rescued and restored off Ebay, a 1:1 clone, a D-powered BT-55 upscale and an E-powered BT-55 upscale. The D and E birds really rock!

I know... that all came up in Google too! I searched Estes Satellite Interceptor and quickly discovered it to be one of your favorites!

I had an original back in the 70's that I never flew, so it was high on my list to clone when I got back into the hobby in 2001. The Wildfire was the kit you needed to find to clone one back then, but I couldn't seem to win one on Ebay, so I decided on the D upscale. I flew it at Big Bone Lick State Park (I'm not making that up,) on the front lawn. It was way too small for a D bird, but I lucked out and got it back anyway. (With some deep gouges in the balsa after it threaded the needle through the tree branches.) If I wasn't hooked before, that most definitely did it.
Oh, yeah. I won a Wildfire a week or so later.

It's really hard to beat the feeling of almost losing one and not... I think I'd rather almost lose one and not than have a perfect flight!

The Wildfire has become the first rocket that I Googled to see and got no results pointing to Ninefinger catalogs... this (http://www.geocities.com/ronwat2000/EstesWildfirePhoto.htm) was the only pic I could find! What was it that was needed from that, looks like the nose, I suppose?

It was a nose/tail cone combination. Nowadays you can build an S.I. with just the cone from a Skywriter, but at the time those nose cones were a tough find.
I'd post a picture of the Wildfire, (I later built it with another nose cone,) but it got treed one day at B6-4 Field. I've got another one that I'm building now.

We also have Turkeyfoot Road

While it's not the road's name, we have a stretch of road that's called Turkey Foot... it's a straight run that angles off and it's where the young necks go to drag race. Used to be a place where the shine runners drag raced and fine tuned their ability to outrun the law!

We also have Booger Holler Road right over behind my house!

I run "Roachwerks" 'cause I live on Roach Road.

My wife pointed out today that, "Somebody stole our road sign...AGAIN!"

Damn heshers.
There's a street out in Crestview named Toner Ave. As far back as I can remember, someone has always painted an "S" on the left edge of the sign.

As for the Satellite Interceptor, check out these pics of a PDR kit done in silver.

Looking at this has me thinking about grafting a new front tube onto my original upscale clone and giving it a silver repaint. I've always had good luck with that decal set.

There was a road near E-Town called "Bloody Ridge Road" but I guess the PC crowd got involved 'cause now it's got a much more mundane name. (I think the name came from the fact that John Hunt Morgan's men were encamped on a ridge nearby overlooking the L&N railroad tracks.)

Seems to me that Suck Run is near a Morgan's Raiders historical marker also.
How far were you from Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky, Doug?

There is a "Bone Road" near my area of Michigan.
Some Yay-hoo ALWAYS (for the past 25 yrs or so) adds a large spray painted "R" to the end of the word "Bone" on the road sign.

There's a Knob Lick and a Devil's Elbow in Missouri.I've camped at Knob Creek, Kentucky, Lincoln's boyhood home, about 10 miles from his birthplace, and now a top shelf brand of bourbon :)

How far were you from Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky, Doug? Not sure I recall it. I've driven thru Eighty Eight, Kentucky. And spent a weekend in French Lick, Indiana.

Will political correctness ever get so bad that Bullitt County has to change its name?

They're already trying to rename White Settlement, Texas. It was named for a man named White, and not for any other reason :)

...

Trying to get back on topic, at a DARS meeting a couple years ago, while discussing the Mars Snooper with Don Magness, I asked him if Squirrel Works might ever do a Uranus Sniffer? <vbseg>

He got a big laugh out of that one.
