to launch an Ares 1 model rocket? Vince Huegele and I got to show the Marshall Space Flight Center educational outreach group how to prep and launch the infamous Ares 1 model rocket today :D It flew beautifully twice, both times on a D12 - Vince put the altitude at about 500', though I would say 350' or 400'. These folks will be taking the model around to use in NASA demonstrations for schools, etc.

And, no, it did not land on the roof of the propulsion building this time, though we did have trouble with the LES breaking off on landing. The provided 12" chute was not sufficient to bring down the upper stage safely :p Thank goodness we have 2 of these models.

Scuttlebutt was that Estes wants more details on the Aries DAC 2 design, possibly for a kit.

I'll believe it when I see it... :eek:
