I am not sure why anyone is interested in this model, but I am one of them who is. Perhaps it is because I was an official Estes Aerospace Club member when I was a kid. How many thrust bars did YOU "earn"?

Anyway, here is the decal I redrew in Illustrator. Actually I drew most of it; the magenta circle with the stylized rocket outline never looked right when I tried to trace it so that is a cleaned up scan in Photoshop. The rest is vector artwork.

Due to the bitmap elements this particular piece of artwork would be unsuitable for a major upscale, but you can use it for the original sized rocket. Also due to those elements this file is somewhat larger than an all-vector file.

Scott, feel free to post it on your site if you so wish.

Thanks. I grabbed it to add to your decal site.

I like it because it was a cool looking kit, EAC exclusiveness was just a bonus. :)

I tweaked my decal colors to match the purple nosecone color that Bill recommended. We had a whole thread discussing original colors, intended colors, faded colors, etc. when I "rebuilt" my old Viper. Old Thread (http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/showthread.php?t=757&page=1&pp=10&highlight=viper)

I agree, this rocket somehow was my favorite out of the 20+ I built when I was younger... :D

Now that I am back into it, and have just completed my EAC Viper, I have to admit I made a mistake and put a mini motor mount in it... :o

But I kind of like the idea of have one with a mini, and think I will build two more, one with an A-C mount and an upscale one for a D motor... maybe a Q-Modeling Mega Viper. :D

I will use your decal on my next one thanks...

Currently building 2 Estes kits, almost ready to paint and have a Semroc Saturn 1B on route for delivery... :D

I went the other way around. I bought the decals from Excelsior, then searched to find a matching color paint. I think the Model Master Hot Magenta comes mighty close. I hope to put the decals on tomorrow.

I'm not totally satisfied with the yellow I used. Krylon makes a yellow orange that I think might be better. I'm just not sure...

Here then, FWIW, is the complete vector file I drew. Like I said I wasn't happy with the rocket thingy but now that I look at it again it isn't all *that* bad. With this file you can change the colors in Illustrator or Corel if you wish.

Email me if you want an AI or EPS file rather than this PDF, although most drawing programs shouldn't have a problem opening the PDF.

Smoke if you got 'em :)

So, what's the difference between this drawing and the one posted earlier? Which one should I post on your decal site?

Well, I finished my Viper clone today. All Semroc parts, Jimz plans, and Excelsior decals. All I have to apply is a few coats of Future. That, and a chute or streamer, I haven't decided yet. I'm quite proud of myself. This one came out MUCH better than the one I built all those years ago.

The difference is only with the stylized rocket shape with the magenta half-circles. On the first one I posted, this circle is a cleaned up scan of the original. Everything else is redrawn in Illustrator. On the second one, everything is redrawn including that circle.

Leave it the way it is on your site. I think the first one is better and is what you need for a clone. I only posted the second one so that someone could use it to change the color of the circle (assuming they have a drawing program). I didn't consider this second file ready for prime time, if you know what I mean.

Clear as mud, right?

I completed a Nighthawk kit to get 4, complete with the '73 catalog paint scheme, though my masking skills were pretty limited at the time. It was my first attempt at trying a wood filler to smooth the balsa, boy was that thing heavy when I was done. Hmm, maybe that explains why I never made it to 5  . I even wore a t-shirt with the bars too, I was such a geek. My Viper is still in pretty good shape, and sits on the little cardboard stand, I'll bring it out to fly sometime.

Building a clone, are we?
