semroc saturn 1b 24mm engine

My brother wanted a challenging rocket to build so for christmas I bought him the Semroc saturn 1b.Not being confident in clustering the engines he put the single 24mm engine mount in.Here's my ?Has anyone used the Aerotech E-30 engine in it??Can he fly it with that engine Thanks J.P.

Yes , and I believe the E15-4 will do the trick also. :)

I second that recommendation. The E15 will take off a lot faster than a D12 will, so do not think the E15 will make the Saturn-V take off slow and weathercock a lot. It will take off plenty fast enough, since it has a regressive thrust curve whose spike is a lot higher than the D12's. The E30 has a thrust curve that is also regressive, except that the curve is stretched about twice the thrust level of the E15 and about half the burn time of the E15. The Saturn-V will actually fly a little bit HIGHER on the E15 due to how poorly it will coast on an E30 due to it's frontal area drag.

Also, my BT-101 Little Joe-II, which weighs about the same as the S-V kit, flies on an E15-4. Actually my Little Joe weighs a little more than the S-V.

If I had a 1/100 Saturn-V kit to fly, and built it with a 24mm mount, that is what I would fly it on.

Thanks, the rocket launch lugs were changed to 1/4" and will be launched off a 6' rod. I have both e-15 and e-30's so I'll go with the e-15/4.Hope it flys good cause after all the time it took him to build I'd hate to see it cato. Thanks Jpaw
