Years ago NIRA bought some fire blankets from American Science and Surplus. Of course they long sold out of the stuff, which was just a 5x7' peice of yellow rubberized life raft material. Any one know where we can get similar material for reasonable prices ($5-10 per piece)?

The only suggestion any has so far are welding blankets, and those all look to be both too expensive and to heavy, not to mention being of itchy fiberglass that requires gloves for handling.

We don't handle ours with gloves and I've had no problem with itching from them. They are very heavy.

Why not regular tarpaulins?? Not the cheapy plastic ones from W/M or the farm stores, but actual good heavy duck tarpaulins?? They should hold up to most 'hot stuff' landing on them, and if something DOES burn through, nothing should ignite underneath because the tarpaulin is 'smothering' the ground beneath...

Just a thought... Good luck! OL JR :)
