I'm looking for a scan or drawing of the K50 fin marking guide. A search of YORF didn't turn up anything, and I didn't see a template on JimZ either. Thanks!

Sure there is. It's in the PDF file.
I've used it to make a standard size, two smaller sizes and a BT-80 sized monster.
I have a lot of the patterns already scaled.

I have a redrawn marking template for this kit if you are interested. I drew it in Illustrator and the angles are all symetrical and should be a little better than the Estes one. Let me know if you would be interested in this template.

We think alike, Sandman. I turned a practice cone for the Interceptor out of some scrap pine the other day. I'll do one out of balsa soon. :)

Can I take you up on the Illustrator files for K-50, Kurt? I'm having a devil of a time in my redraw.

Bob,
Here is the marking guide. To explain about this guide though, it is an evenly spaced recreation of what I thought the original Estes one should be. It looked pretty good on my clone.
If you want or need the decal files, I think those are on Scott's site or I will send them to you too. Let me know.

FWIW, here is a (relatively poor) picture of my recent Interceptor clone next to its 30+ year-old brother.

Nice pic Kurt. I hope to have a 'matching' set soon. Do you still fly them both?

*LOL* I have that 30+ year old brother's twin. I'm working a clone as well. Thanks for that fin guide Kurt!

Well, no. I flew the old one about 6-7 years ago at one of our launches, and I've flown the new one once at the sod farm. The plastic parts on the new one (and the old one too) are real Estes parts, and I think it got brittle from age because the shock cord loop on the nose cone cracked on the first flight. That caused a separation but the body came in very slowly and in a horizontal attitude, almost a glide. It settled undamaged on the tall grass which was fortunate. Anyway, I haven't done anything to fix that and it just sits on the shelf now.

Looks good, I really like that model. How are you cloning the plastic parts?

I bought a set of Moldin' Oldie parts a few years ago. My set is pretty clean and the parts are almost as light as the original parts.
I'd love to do a 4" Interceptor upscale like Tom Beach's. :D

I just received my Moldin' Oldies parts. I was pleasantly surprised how good they look, very crisp detail on the NC, only minor lines where the original joint was. Mike noted that he just made new molds for these parts. With Kurts fin guide (thanks!), I'm all set to start building. I'd like to take the load off my original, it is really my favorite modroc to launch. Now, to use fluorescent orange on the pods (like the instructions say), or just regular orange (like my original), that is the question...

I'd say go with REGULAR orange; even the catalogued Interceptors appear to have used regular orange; if you want to follow the printed info, use fluorescent, but if you want it to appear as the catalogue (and look RIGHT), use plain-old Testors Competition Orange.
I have seen both on actual models and think the regular orange looks much better.

Gordon, I think you're talking about the fin patterns and he's talking about the fin position guide to mark the body tube? Anyway, here's a couple of files I found somewhere on the Internet that may be helpful.
