Inspired by Pemberton Technologies' Screamin' Green Meanie, introducing the Dead Ringer.
Instead of the horizontal tube fin caps, these slant upward at a rakish angle, with a crosshair arrangement of traditional fins centered in each. The four vertical body tube conduits are each launch lugs!

I imagine that the tube rings could be angled down in the opposite direction, and that the crosshair fins could have many alternate designs to tickle your own fancies. Also some consideration for reinforcing each tube fin to its neighbor might be in order.

Construction-wise it's all pretty straightforward, but getting the fin tubes cut could be a bit of a stickler. I'd love some feedback!

This is my favorite of the designs you've posted today.

Last year I was going to enter the EMRR Design This Spaceship contest.
The design I picked had an oval body tube (not round) like the tubes on the back end of your drawing.

I dampened the inside of a BT-80 and carefully weighed it down with a couple of books on top. This pressed it into an oval shape. It was a bit of a balancing act.
By the next morning I had an oval body tube that is still in that shape a year later.

If I were to build this design, I'd compress a long tube, then cut it into the smaller oval disks for the back end.

I'm curious, which software are you using for drawing it up in 3D?
Nice work!

Be careful here, Hans... they apparently don't want you posting here without a RockSim file attachment.

I use Wings3D (an awesome and FREE 3D modeler prog) and Swift3D to render images.
Thank you for boosting my morale a tad...

Here's the start of an ORK file for the Dead Ringer. Any suggestions for adding the slanted tube fins? And the crosshair fins?

OpenRocket is a little more intuitive...

That is one of the most unique designs I've seen since that B5 Whitestar clone. Nicely done.

Hmmm... I have yet to find this 'Dead Ringer' reference on these links, despite having been sent over there twice to look.

You have to dig a little. Go back to the link and look in the MicroMaxx kits section. You'll see the Dead Ringer there. :-)

Brain,
Sorry about that; must be the way the links work at Fliskits. The 'Dead Ringer' Jim makes is a micromaxx model. Click on the micromaxx link on the main site, then scroll down to have a look. Really is quite a nice model; mine is built, but I have yet to paint it. It will be an involved process!
Your DR rendition is gorgeous. I'd like to see all the specs, as it looks like a fine model to scratch out. If you build one, do a thread on the subject. Please!
Oh, and it doesn't look easy to paint either!

Edit: Whoops! Tom, you beat me to it!

WOW!
Wish our SGM looked that good....
Very nice work, sleek, slick and sexy.
If we have a designer position come open I'll contact you.

And I'll be interested if that should ever come about!

I did find that Dead Ringer on the FlisKits page. That's an interesting design... I wasn't aware of its existence before I thought up the name myself. I may have to come up with a new name... Star Plug? Cloud Intruder? The Hoover? BreakWinder (I always like smelling my rockets after I recover them... )? I dunno... I'll have to think about it...

And I want one of those SGM's myself.

I couldn't find a link to the MicroMaxx kits so I used trust 'ole Google:

MicroMaxx Kits (http://www.fliskits.com/products/rocketkits/micromaxx/mmx_kits.htm)

Also, this kit has been reviewed on EMRR:

http://fliskits.com/products/01prod_fs.htmThe Fliskits website uses frames. So it takes a little trickery to get the right URL :D http://fliskits.com/products/rocketkits/micromaxx/kit_detail/dead_ringer.htm

Why change the name? Do a search for the name Stiletto. Centuri made one. Estes made one. US Rockets made one. I don't think there will be any confusion between these two very different models.

I ran across this upscale report on EMRR, and thought that it looked a heck of a lot like the Dead Ringer (in question). At this link:

I thought I'd seen something else like it, somewhere else. Nice upscale of what looks like an already excellent original.
