I was sketching a few new wing shapes on some graph paper last night, and I stumbled across one that really seemed to work for me. A couple of sketches later, and I had a design that was just screaming out to me for the wedge-shaped Estes PNC-50 from the Manta Bomber/Attack Craft Orion.

In fact, my new layout had a lot of similar characteristics to the Orion, so I decided to deck it out as though it were like a larger wing-mate to the Attack Craft Orion. Thus, I give you....

And it is available for everyone to build, since Moldin' Oldies has that NC available for $6...

Nice job, EV!

Very nice design EchoVictor. I just love the sci-fi designs. :D This is one design with the wing style that Rocsim can't do. More like one of many!

Here she is, primed and ready for paint.

The little strake on the top of the BT between the vertical fins is a piece to cover up the pre-cut slots from the Estes Venom kit I used as a parts donor. There's another identical one on the bottom.

Nice frame, EV. Pictures and a flight report are on their way, right?

Craig,

more pics and report will definitely follow...

FYI, since I used that Venom for parts, the tube length on my actual model is 11.25", not 12". Also, she passed the swing test with no added nose weight.

Been a while since I messed with this one. I've never been quite satisfied with how it turned out, so it's sat around for a while.

I finally realised that what bothered me is the fact that the wingspan isn't wide enough and it looks a little nose-heavy. Since I like the wing shapes and don't feel like doing any cutting, how about a different nose cone?

Which one do you guys think I should use?

Which one do you guys think I should use?My first choice would be the Star Rider cone, followed by the Screaming Eagle cone. Both keep the "lines" of the design clean, to my eye. :)

Ditto. Star Rider first, Screaming Eagle second, Argosy cone would be a good third place. The block-shaped original wasn't quite doing it for me, either; and the 50K just doesn't cut it at all.

Now, in terms of other folks being able to duplicate it, the Screaming Eagle might jump ahead of the Star Rider, as that cone has not been around for some time. Moldin' Oldies would be the only source provided someone sends him an original to clone. Mike's site doesn't show this one yet. He does show the Argosy pattern, though.

I like the new Screaming Eagle cone best.

Well, guess I'm odd man out cause I really liked the original. I think it tied in well with the fin designs. :(

Right there with you... I would have to do battle with myself between the original and Star Rider, but the original just looks sooooo sweetly sci fi... I dig it a lot.

I sure do wish there were cones like that available to buy for self designed kits... that's right in line with the type of thing I want to get ahold of.

Since I have a few of the Star Rider cones this would be my first choice . My first thought was this bird looks like a real fighter . I see it needing some gun pods( laser Cannons ) right under the vertical stablizer. Nothing fancy ,launch lug and a small dia. 1/12" dowel would do it for me . BTW Great design.

Believe me, I really wanted the original to look good. The whole concept in the first place was for this to be like a larger compatriot to the AC Orion. On it's own, my Corvus looks okay, but when you set it next to the Orion, that "big-head" look becomes apparent;

Smaller wingspan too. This is supposed to the be bigger, beefier brother. Not the taller, anorexic sister...

"John you mean like this "well sort of I'd move the one's you have forward or add onto the ones you have and exstend them beyond the wings front edge and add a cannon to the inside of the launch lug dowel smaller than the launch lug. I would have responded sooner been working on a Flis US TOG :)
