Hello All,

Another class of full-scale rockets that would lend themselves well to scale modeling is anti-hail rockets (also called hail-suppression rockets and rain-enhancement rockets). Many of them could easily be modeled at 1:1 (100%) scale. Below are links to illustrations of and information on several different types of anti-hail rockets:

Also, Shaanxi Zhongtian Rocket Technologies Co., Ltd. (an anti-hail rocket manufacturer that also produces model rockets under the "Sky" name) offers the TK-1 and TK-2 hail-suppression rockets, the TY-3 sounding rocket, and the TY-4 meteorological rocket (see: www.wcu100.com/WeatherRocketEnglish/SoundingRocketEnglish.htm ). Their TY-3 sounding rocket is particularly interesting as a scale model subject because it has a long, gently-tapered boat-tail, which would give a TY-3 scale model quite low drag.

I hope this information will be useful.

Very interesting! I think a lot of those look really cool, and would make great scale projects.

Thanks for posting all that info, and for introducing the subject! :D

Could of used some these yesterday. 3/4inch hail devastated my garden. No more summer squash or beans this year. :(

Thanks for posting all that info, and for introducing the subject! :DYou're most welcome! I was also thinking that anti-hail rockets might be a lucrative "side business" for model rocket manufacturers, particularly those who make larger motors. (The Chinese model rocket company called "Sky" is actually a "side business" of a Chinese anti-hail rocket manufacturer.) On the days when the air here in Alaska is heavily-laden with dense smoke from forest fires, I've pondered launching silver iodide crystals (or dry ice) to try to create rain clouds (or "encourage" existing clouds to rain out their moisture) to clear the smoke (taking care not to start additional fires from launching the rockets, of course!).Could of used some these yesterday. 3/4inch hail devastated my garden. No more summer squash or beans this year. :(I hope your car(s) were in a garage during that! Also, while this can't save your current crop, I also came across anti-hail netting products (see: http://www.google.com/search?sclient=psy&hl=en&site=&source=hp&q=anti+hail+screens&btnK=Google+Search#sclient=psy&hl=en&source=hp&q=anti+hail+netting&aq=5&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=anti+hail+&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=cff038ff1d0ab028&biw=792&bih=377 ) that could protect your future plantings. They protect plants from hail while letting rain, sunlight, and air pass through them.

Yeah, but I have to say, those are mostly butt-ugly, utilitarian type rockets. There are so many other 'scale' rockets whose look is not so ordinary.
Just my opinion...

I just found two more anti-hail rockets (also added to the main list in Posting #1 above):
