Winds Aloft Visual

Been using this "Windy" map for awhile now to check winds around my local area.

You can search and find your area as well.

Great to check how the wind is doing at your launch area. Best part is it is a visual view with little arrows traveling fast or slow at the different altitudes.

Hope this helps with keeping rockets out of trees....

I've moved this thread to Mission Control (which discusses launches) and made it a Sticky. Thanks, Mike!

Thanks for the tip! I really like the mobile version interface.

Another mobile app I really like for the flying field is MyRadar (available for free on all the platforms App stores). It does a really good job of showing you rain moving in in real time. Very, very accurate.

Thank you, Mike! For a moment I thought I was dead, because it defaulted to the Kenai Peninsula when I clicked on the link, and Fairbanks didn't appear in the Alaska communities list when I backspace-erased the Kenai Peninsula's name from the line. :-) But it came up when I typed in the city's name, and it matches our local radio forecast. This will be useful for F/F and R/C flyers as well as for model rocketeers.

The Windyty animated weather map website https://www.windyty.com/60.384/-150....385,-151.375,9 also has webcam views of many locations (just scroll down, using the "slide" to the left of the center of the screen). The webcam views also show time-lapse views of the previous day. It was something to see Lake Chatuge https://www.windyty.com/34.949/-83.757?34.950,-84.334,9 between Hiawassee and Young Harris in the mountains of northern Georgia, which I left (very reluctantly) thirty years ago!
