"Semroc" meaning?

Hello All,

I was just reading through Semroc Astronautics' May 1970 issue of "Astronautic Modeler" (see: http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/ca...0semroccat.html ) when a question occurred to me: What does "Semroc" mean? Now:

One possible meaning might be that the "Sem" syllable stands for "Seminal." My 1978 Random House Dictionary gives the following three definitions for the word "seminal":

[1] "Of or pertaining to semen or seed." (I think *this* one can be discounted... :-) )
[2] "Having possibilities of future development."
[3] "Highly original or creative."

Definitions [2] and [3] seem consistent with the company's raison d'etre, as the articles in the "Astronautic Modeler"--from the company's earliest days--make it clear that future development and being creative (and encouraging creativity in the SAMs [Semroc Astronautic Modelers] of those years) were Semroc's goals (and still are). Admittedly, though, I'm just guessing; it is possible, and even likely, that only Carl and/or Sheryl know for sure what the company's name means.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Not to put words into Carl's mouth, but don't throw away the possibility that it might mean South Eastern Model ROCetry...

Carl is located in North Carolina, after all...

Yep, that could indeed be it (rather similar to how the call letters of the historic radio station WSB in Atlanta, Georgia stand for "Welcome South, Brother").
