Estes Saturn V K-36NF (Non-Flying) Kit?

Folks-

Anyone know much background about this kit? 'Non-Flying' version of the Estes Saturn V kit, apparently produced just for the Kennedy Space Center (gift shop there at KSC, I assume).

Kit appears complete and seems to be the exact same components except for motor mount internals and chutes that would normally be used for flight.

I've not seen this kit before and I cannot find any references to it on-line anywhere. If you have any additional background, feel free to share what you know.

Obviously, this is a pre-Damon version. Don't know if it continued into the the post-Damon era or not.

Wow! That's something I'd never heard of! I definitely want to hear about this!

Cool....where'd you find this gem?

Randy 12-20-2012 06:44 AM

I agree, WOW! I've never heard of this version either. Has to be EXTREMELY rare! You may have found a GRAIL like rocket!

Ok, here's the thing Earl. When anyone stumbles across an item like this they are required to post every last detail you can find. It's now your mission in life to extract all you can and post it to YORF.

I think your theory about it selling at the Cape could be corect. Maybe John knows something about this kit or can find out from Christine or someone still there at Estes.

Now I'm curious to kow if there were other non flying kits like a Sat 1B or Titan III , etc. ever sold.

Stop reading this and GO MAN GO!

Hey Earl, if that box is already open, please post some photos of what's in it. If it isn't open don't do it!. You may actually get some crazy EBay price for real.

I would suspect it is identical to the regular K-36 minus the cluster motor mount. The instructions probably include steps to permanently mount the display nozzles.

Wow. I've been around this hobby for more years than I care to admit, and I've never seen or heard or heard of this item. That's a real find!

Nothing in Ninfinger, so you have got something that while may have been available is surely not well documented. The 1969 Estes catalogue shows the 691-K-36 for $9.95. Where did you find this one?

sandman 12-20-2012 10:21 AM

That looks to be a collectible to me!

If it's not opened...DON'T!

I'll give you 25 bucks and a "roll in the hay" with my wife for it.

She won't mind. She know's it's for the good of the industry. No, I haven't asked her yet. No, she doesn't read my posts.

After the "exchange" I'll use the $25 to buy a big purple hat with a leopard skin band and an ostrich plume.

AND......

since my last trip to the dentist I now have three gold crowns, so my pimp name will be:

"PIMP DADDY BIGGIE J-DOG BLING TEEF"
