Toys R Us rocket engines?

I browsed through a Toys R Us store this evening, and discovered packs of Estes C6-5 and B6-4 motors for $4.98. I haven't been inside a Toys R Us for years. Is this a normal price? Seems like a tremendous deal to me.

We don't have one in Fairbanks, but this could be a good portent. In Miami, Toys R Us often had the best prices on Estes motors (one of my nephews and I would buy sizable batches of motors and kits from them).

The T-R-U store near me (on the west side of Ft W, on I-30 at Cherry Lane) didn't used to carry model rocket stuff, then they did, then they didn't, then they did.....you get the idea.

I still have several of the MMX sets that they sold on clearance (15 yrs ago? 20?)

I don't think that store has a single thing for model rocketry right now

I picked up a Moon Mutt launch set for $6.00 a few years back. I suspect some Toys R Us may carry rocket launch sets and engines around Christmas time and then put what did not sell on clearance.

If the individual stores have any discretion in what products they carry, if local clubs and schools bought from them, that might encourage them to carry model rockets on a continuing (or at seasonal--say, holiday and summer times) basis. Even if they don't have such discretion, the corporate headquarters might issue such a directive if they saw the sales figures.

Were they the new 2-packs?

No they were 3-packs without the chute wadding. They didn't have any rocket kits or sets. Just the motors stuck in display boxes near the Star Wars toys.

Wow,

Estes products at Toys R us have been 'seasonal' at best lately and vary greatly from location to location.

It has been MANY years since I've seen the motor packs without wadding at this type of store as they have no place to display or sell wadding packs.

Check the date code on the motors. it is remotely possible that these are extremely old stock found in the back of a stockroom, from the days when they sold the motor packs without the wadding and the wadding separately.

if the date code is new, then i guess this is just "interesting...."
