FlksKits Site

Does anyone know if the FlisKits site still open for business? I visited it yesterday and it looked like it hadn't been updated in a long time. The online catalog link is from 2015. I also noticed that there haven't been any posts by Jim Flis on the forum in a while.

He mostly hangs out at TRF. I did a quick check and his last post was in Oct.

Pictures from a January 14 launch this year have been posted.

Thanks for the info.

It looks things in the hobby have slowed way down these last few years, maybe with the exception of high power. It might be a combination of less open space to launch, kids being more into tech than hobbies, and the ridiculous twenty plus dollar surcharge required to purchase engines...

I hope everything is ok with Jim. Maybe he sells his kits via other vendor sites these days.

The site is showing his latest kits - including those that were recently released.

He moved his hosting recently (just in the last couple of weeks) and I don't think everything went over smoothly.

That plus the site badly needs to be updated to current standards. But that is not an expense that most kitchen table model rocket companies can afford.

Thanks Roy, the background information is very helpful.

This is what he posted on his Facebook Page on January 3 (ok, so it was more than a couple of weeks ago):

"WEB SITE DOMAIN CHANGE.

FlisKits is in the process of migrating our domain. They say timing is everything...

The current (old) domain has been pulled and the new domain is not yet launched, nor DNS servers updated. As a result, FlisKits.com is dark for the first time in over 15 years!

But, take heart, we’ll be back shortly and I will keep everyone updated!

Pass this note on to every rocketeer you know!

Thanks,
The folks at FlisKits"

When I quizzed him about it, it sounded like he was confusing "domain change" with "hosting change" but he said he was changing both hosting and domain, but he hasn't answered my question about what the new domain name would be.

A new domain would be a new name for his web presence. He probably meant a new registrar. (Along with a web host change.)

Yep, new registrar is likely.
