Interceptor #1250 Skin kit

4 Attachment(s)
I had ask in another thread if anyone had done one of the Interceptors E useing the skin kits by John Pursley of Accur8man. Then I desided to just go a head and do the #1250 skin kit that I already had, to find out for myself.

The kit comes with a 9 page instruction sheet. I have read through them.
I coated the skins with a clear coat to protect them from dirt.
The first thing is to apply the body tube skin. I have done this . Not to hard.
Take your time cutting the skin parts out. Use a sharp blade, and most of all take your time lineing up the skins on the body tube.
You have to cut out strips where the wings and rudders go. No problem there.

The nosecone is next. I will start it later. The instruction for the nonecone starts out.
"Covering the nosecone is the trickiest part of the whole skinning process." I will let you know how it goes.

Please do let us know how it goes, it just might motivate me to get started!

Me too! I have a skin kit #1250 build rising to the top of the build pile.

Accur8man let me choose my own pilot's name for the cockpit: Maj. D. Isarray. :D

OK, spent about 2 and 1/2 hours today applying the wraps to the nosecone.
The instruction were right. It was a little tricky, but nothing anyone on this forum couldn't figure out.

I first cut the wraps out. I then had to go to ebay and study one of the Intercepters John has for sale to get a reference for the location of the lines to the canopy. After that it was just a matter of locating, and sticking the wraps on tight. There was some cutting around the canopy. Be sure you have a new, sharp blade for this.

On the back wrap I had to reline it up a couple of times before I got it where I wanted it.
After pulling the wrap up at least 3 times it still had good sticking power, So don't be afraid to pull the wrap up and start again.

At the edge where the back wrap meets the frount wrap, I had to make some slits on the edge to get the edge to lay down flat, but no problem.

Doing the nosecone is not that hard. Just take your time, and think things out.
I believe it would help if there was some photos to use as a guide for the wraps placements.

Be back in a couple days. I have to get the wings, rudders and tails prepped for the wraps.
Till then.

Lookin' good!

Interested to know what material these wraps are printed on. Looks like some relatively thick material.

It's a vinyl made by a company in Texas called Papilio. I ended up buying a 100 sheet box of the stuff to experiment with. Here what I bought:

Thanks for the link...looks like some interesting media. Is it thicker material than what one would find in say vinyl used for bumper stickers (to use their example of an suggested application)?

Intersting in that it 'stains' the media making it waterproof, even though most ink jets use water soluble inks.

I'd hazard a guess that it's the same man who flies/competes in scale etc. Well known and the eBay name is spot on.

Actually he is the same guy.

The vinyl may wind up being an alternative to the Alps printer waterslide decals.
