Do you know what this nose cone is?
 

Hey all,
I was wondering if any of you rocket history buffs know what this nose cone is from or might have any information at all. It feels like it is made of rubber and the little sheet of paper was rolled up inside the nose cone.

This is a crude mold. There have been several such nose cones, none of which I remember specifically, including MMI.

It is a PNC-40H rubber nose cone. The 1964 Estes catalog lists it along with two other cones as plastic. Only one is actually plastic as it was from a firework. See www.ninfinger.org. It also shows up in the 1963 catalog, but appears to be mislisted as weighting 0.07 ounce. The 1964 catalog shows a more believable 0.40 ounce.
I believe that these nose cones originated with Model Missiles, Inc. Hopefully someone can either confirm or disprove that.

+1 It is a pnc 40H. it was featured on the Central Rockets kit whose name I forget. The shock cord is attached via a piece of thread you attach through the shoulder. I've got three of them I bought at Slot and Wing, one with the origanal instructions rolled up inside.

The rocket from Central Rockets also featured the spin-fin unit used in the Estes Bug-a-Bye design.

I was wrong about it being Central rockets, but, I have seen the ad. Maybe on the Ninfinger site?

Nose cone
 

I had seen one like that in Pratt's collection of stuff years ago but I just figured it was something he made. What is the full story on this piece?

I don't know much about them, which is why I asked here and got some info. I bought a rocket collection several years ago and 2 of these cones were in that collection. I never really thought much about them and just left them in one of the boxes of rocket stuff I had bought. The other day I was going through some boxes and rediscovered them. So then I thought it was time to see if anybody knew what they were. The 2 cones have now moved on to new homes.
