Estes Challenger-1 (1416) Starter Set Complete Instructions

Scored a Challenger-1 kit, along with the launch controller and the lantern battery pad it came with. Didn't find the instructions archived anywhere... So,here they are.

The scans were done page by page. For best results (as is), print them on 11x17" paper. When I get a chance, I plan on breaking them down into a format better suited for viewing by computer.

Interesting. I've never seen that two piece nose cone before.

My brother found, or scored at a thrift sale, a built Challenger. It looked like it had been stored in a dry attic; kind of dried out. I shipped it home after ditching the body tube.'

As I recall, I had to re-glue the nose cone halves. Gave it a nice wet-sanding and priming, and painted it and the fin can bright orange.

That and a primed, painted, and compounded new body tube made it a way swanky Challenger. Decals from Sandman as I recall!

Oh, you probably have, but didn't realize it... It was used in the Scorpion (1333), before that kit switched to the two-piece (injection molded) PNC-50YR (PN-72604/72605). I suspect that the Scorpion may have used a blow molded PNC-50Y (PN-71009) between the time it used the the PRP-1H, and the two piece PNC-50YR (but I have yet to see actual proof of that).

The two-piece nose cone was still around when the Challenger-1 rocket was repackaged as the Kadet.

Except it was molded in black (still had the same part numbers though). The Kadet also used a 30" long streamer compared to the Challenger-1's parachute.

Thanks K'tesh. These old instructions are simple wonderful. Pages of English and lots of clean line drawings. I like the picture of a Sky Dart launch as well. Perhaps you would consider sending this one to Scott for inclusion on Oldrocketplans ?

Sam & Jim,

You'll note that YORP hasn't been updated in over 6 years. Unfortunately, that's not going to change. In early 2012 the computer I had the website software on croaked. I no longer have the time to create a new website for YORP so it will stay static.

I encourage people that have new plans that I currently don't have on YORP to upload them here in the Plans forum as Jim has with the Challenger plans. (Thanks, Jim!) I've had a number of plans sent to me since the last update on YORP and I plan on posting them here in this forum as I have time.
