New Kits from ERockets/Semroc

Just noticed the image of the UFO invader kit on the Semroc pages at eRockets. Only two questions. 1. Is this an upsize? Because the original is based ST-13 tubing and they are listing it as 1.64 diameter - perhaps a typo? 2. When will it be ready to ship? Been wanting this for a long time! Just two more Superkits to go.

It says "sorry, out of stock..." so it either instantly sold out, or is very soon to be released.

The Astron Spaceman is new too. And I also noticed the Mars Snooper and Gyroc kits for the first time.

Whenever they put a new kit on the site it is listed as “Sorry, out of sock” until they announce it on their FB page. Then it goes live. Should be soon.

The original flew like crap. I tried everything I knew to correct it's arcing flight path to no avail.
Did anyone ever get one to fly straight?

Allen

Addendum: oops, wrong rocket. I was thinking of that horrible Estes invader . It was pancake-shaped, I think from the 60's. It was a dreadful rocket.
I have a UFO Invader all restored, but I have not flown it.

ALL the Centuri "SuperKits" flew like crap on a C6-3 and only marginal on the now OOP C5-3.
Fly on an 18mm D21 or convert to 24mm and fly on C11s and D12s.
I believe that Centuri (Estes produced) brought out the C5-3 'super C' at the same time as their Super Kits to have an engine with enough 'kick' to ensure a decent launch

The C5 and B8 should be brought back and the entire B6 and C6 line discontinued.

That explains why the Estes Invader was the first K kit to be discontinued......

Mine (Astron Invader) flew straight once, on it's first flight. And the next two were.... interesting... And it no longer flys...

The Semroc UFO Invader is due out sometime soon after Christmas this year.

It's based on the Centuri design.

How hard would it be to modify those reactor vanes around the motor mount?

I would definitely change this to a 24mm mount.

With stock parts, pretty difficult. The vanes are all laser cut cardstock like the centering rings and fins. The aft CR has holes cut in it to align the vanes.

If it was up to me, I'd use my own centering rings (either RA-5055s (cardstock) or CR-5055s (wound craft paper)) and then use strip balsa or spruce to replicate the vanes.

But then again... You could do like I did, and contact Randy, and see if you could talk him into creating a special motor mount for "afterburners" in the BT-50/55 range. My proposal would be a complete motor mount set that includes 2 standard CRs, motor tube, engine hook, the vanes, and a lasercut cardstock guide that would guarantee alignment. To add the vanes, you glue one in place, then using medium thick CA tack the additional vanes in place, remove the guide, and then wick thin CA to complete the joint.

BTW: The actual kit will be including a jig to help align the fins/pods which will simplify assembly.
