You don't *have* to buy the PS II launch pad, but you can *definitely not* use the astron II launch pad with the bigger rockets.

And, among commercially available launch pads that will handle the PS II rockets, the PS II launch pad is probably by far the cheapest. So bite the bullet and get it.

Okay

Will do! Just out of curiosity what do you think would happen if I did use a astron two pad :chuckle:

If you tried to use the Astron II pad, the results would NOT be good.
It is designed to only handle rockets only weighing up to around 10oz. maximum.
It will not take a 1/4" launch rod which is what the PSII rockets use.
It takes up to a 3/16" rod maximum.

If one tried to launch a PSII rocket off that flimsy pad using the 3/16" rod inside 1/4" lugs, one would get massive rodd-whipp upon liftoff, causing the rocket to VEER UNPREDICTABLY off the intended flight path even in conditions of ZERO WIND.

In short, DON'T EVEN TRY IT.

Lol :chuckle:

Just bought a Leviathan! Planning on building a launchpad with the design from the NAR member guide

There's another alternative... build your OWN launch pad...

They're cheaper and much cooler looking anyway...

You can see the pad in these build threads (skim through to the "glamor shots"...)

There was a thread around about building it, but I can't seem to find it right now... try again later maybe...

It's basically just a two foot long 2x12 base, a 5/4x6 deck board about 6-8 inches long for the top of the platform, with a doorknob hole saw hole cut through it, and some baluster 2x2 pieces for the "tower legs". A soup can with both ends cut out and slit down one side with snips, then folded in half back over itself and painted with John Deere yellow paint serves as the blast deflector. A lavatory drain stopper bracket is bent slightly and attached to the launch pad to hold the launch rod with a thumb screw so it's adjustable. Works like a champ and I can put larger launch rods in it to launch larger rockets, plus it looks REALLY cool-- MUCH better than the plastic junk pads you get from the manufacturers, plus it costs a LOT less (nearly nothing actually). Just takes a little time and work to put together.

Good luck! OL JR :)
