Vintage Estes 1345 Dragon Ship 7 Build
3 Attachment(s)
I think I will bite the bullet and build the Dragon to go with the Excalibur, should be a fun challenging vintage build, out of the bag. More old parts and decals.

How are the rivet lines done on those models?

Decals. Lots of decals. Oye. |
I always liked that kit, sort of a pre-curser to the steampunk idea....

I have a Dragon Ship, built back in the day. Just a little beat up. I need to replace the shock cord, and it should be flyable. The back of the face card has a cute cut-away diagram of the ship. Someone had fun with those! I have an Excalibur, still to be built, plus a cottage-industry kit done in hommage to the other two. Gwenivere I think it was; a white spaceship, flown by a lady space knight. I hope to build these two to "catalog quality," with durable finishes, and use all three as demo rockets. |

It has been awhile, a busy month at work has kept me away from building. I finally had some spare time to work on the rocket and here she is already for paint. I built the rocket out of the bag as always, brushed on 3 coats of balsa sealer and added the fillets. I also added the old clump of clay to the nose, it was still useable. This kit does not look like much but it is a builders kit and comes with a lot of wood to seal. Also I added the pencil lines like the directions say so I can add the rivet decals after she is painted. Also this kit has a fin on the bottom that mush be added before flight and it just slips over a smaller balsa fin.

Scigs30, why the heck is one fin removable?

Looks better when on display! I seem to recall that the kit came with a display cradle . . . am I remembering things? |
As far as I know, the "Galactic Pirates" kits from Estes were the only ones to use the BT-3 tube other than the 1/70 Apollo Capsule used in the 1/70 K-29 Saturn 1B and the 1/70 Little Joe II.

Whew, thanks. I guess I couldn't get my head around such a detail on a non-scale model? I'll understand these aesthetic choices when the models complete, I bet.
