getting back into it,
Howdy all, my son and I have started getting into rockets, I built a few back in the day, but that was in 85 or so, I still had some of my rocket stuff in the attic, this is one i built, but never flew, something about girls and cars got in the way, anyone know what it's name was or who made it, i remember working on it for what seemed like forever,
needs a few things and i think it will be ready |
That's an Estes Ram Jet.
Here are the plans. http://www.spacemodeling.org/JimZ/est1994.htm It looks like it needs decals...I have them available. Just go to my site at the bottom of this post. |
Welcome back to the hobby. You are now considered a BAR - Born Again Rocketeer. :) There are a lot of us that fit into that category.

thanks! we have started a 4-H aeronautics club, we have just 6 kids now, but they are all eager to learn and fly, friend of mine has a plane and has already offered rides, hope they can all learn something from it, |
Good going! We need to get more aeronautically minded kids moving through college and into industry.
On the model, I think that the inner tube is a BT-20 which is 12" long, while the outer tubes should be BT-55 based on the marking guide length and each around 5" in length - if you need to replace anything. Check the glue joints after this length of time, especially the engine mount and shock cord mount. Gloss it up before you apply Sandman's decals and they will slide on like paint. Then you'll have a little piece of history to fly. |
A neat little model - just came out during the hated "names but no part numbers" period. It is interesting that Estes reproduced the rear vane at full size in the plan so you could tell the forward and aft apart.
So Sandman - looks like I will be needing a sheets worth of decals... |

The BT-20 is indeed 12" long; the two BT-55 sections are each 5-5/16" long. http://www.rocketshoppe.com/info/Es...be_List_3.1.pdf, page 18. |
