Mars Lander .. old and new
1 Attachment(s)
On the left is my old Mars Lander built when I was 12?, a veteran of multiple flights including a few hard landings. Survival of multiple moves. Long retired!
On the right is my just completed Semroc clone, first flight possibly next week. My building techniques have improved a little in 45 years! The sharp eyed among you will notice a little tribute to the old Estes version on the new ML..something unique to the Estes kit, not normally found on the Semroc.. you may have to blow the pic up to see it. |
Love seeing the childhood model next to your updated one. I have only built the SEMROC version, but I used my own Estes version decals. What's the tribute?

Hard to see, but there's a "Martin Marietta" decal instead of "Semroc Industries" :)

I saw that, but couldn't remember what was on the Semroc decals that I didn't use. |
Does the new one look half decent? I'm still trying to improve my craft and incorporate all the tips I see online, but I'm an old guy, not quite as dextrous as I used to be...

The Semroc kit? It's excellent. My Semroc kit with homemade Estes style decals |

The Mars Lander is the only rocket I have built more times than the Estes Cherokee-D.
Have built 4 Estes ML's and two Semroc ones. Still have one built Estes ML, two built Semroc MLs, and two Semroc kits. One Estes was a victim of a C5-3 cato, one was a victim of an Aerotech D10 with no ejection charge and resultant prang, and one was a victim of an off-center engine nozzle and resultant powr-prang. |
I think Miller might have been asking if he did a half decent job, to which I say yes.

Looks nice to me as well.
