...One of the original Estes Pro Series kits.

A 1992 vintage Impulse model powered by two D12-5 or D12-7 motors.
This was one of the first production run kits. Later releases would feature longer motor hooks for use with the (Infamous) Estes E15 motors.

I discovered the model in one of my many unbuilt kit storage boxes.

It appears that I had done a great deal of work on the model before it was packed away.

The two body tubes had been joined, the motor mount built and installed and the shock cord anchor in place.

The fins had their spruce edges cut and attached.

Al parts had been sanded and sealed. Very clean and smooth.

I figured I might as well finish it.

I did round the leading edge spruce piece on all the fins and then attached the fins to the body tubes.
The fins featured tabs which went through pre-cut slots in the body tube, slid into side braces on the motor mount and the tab glued to the motor mount tubes.
I wanted to use Titebond glue but I was worried about the tight fit of the fin tabs into the side braces allowing the Titebond to 'grab' before I had the fins set in place. I went with a lite use of 30 minute epoxy.

Next I will add the fin fillets and attach the launch lugs.

After that, it's primer time!

I'm not sure why I have them, but I have spare Impulse decals (the foil ones) if you need them.

Thanks Jeffyjeep, but the Impulse doesn't have any foil decals.

You may be thinking of the Maxi Force kit or what I call the LOC/Precision tribute kit. ;)

Impulse Decals

Speaking of decals, here's a picture of the decal sheet for the Estes Pro Series Impulse kit.

The decals are self-adhesive.

A scale/ruler is included in the picture.

My Impulse kit build is moving along nicely if slowly.

The model has been primer coated and sanded twice.

A gloss white undercoat has been applied.

The nose cone and fins have been painted red.

Next I will measure and mask for a red stripe to be painted under the IMPULSE name decal.
Then the body tube gets painted.

As I was painting the model, an 'interesting' car pulled up and parked thirty feet from me.
But that is a topic for another thread. :D

The red stripe has been painted for under the IMPULSE decal.

I had planned to paint the body of the rocket today but the weather has turned cool so that will have to wait. :(

Looks like a giant Alpha.

So the black and fuschia on foil partial sheet in this photo is from a Maxi-Force kit?
