Squirrel Works Astrid

Not a very common model but...I think it should be.

A very interesting design. So far I have only built the Squirrel Works Tardis kits for presents. I really like the Squirrel Works kits.

The first thing I did was lay out the parts.

Pretty straight forward but...5 fins and a nose cone and 2 body tubes, a BT-50 and a BT-55.

One thing with this kit, I had three Astrid kits from the "pile" I'm selling but two had open bags.

I don't blame anyone for that, It seems the sealed seal at the bottom of the bag may have been overheated and came loose on two. No big deal.

Still a nice kit.

When I looked at the fins I notice the outer edge went out a bit and something made me make a change

It could use fin pods. ;)

A few minutes on the lathe...for me. :)

The motor mount was same old same old, 18mm motor mount.
You really don't need to see that.

Then glued the fins on. I thought a 5 fin model would be difficult.

It wasn't.

Then the fin strakes. Also easy.

Gees, I haven't built a kit that wasn't one of my designs in a long time!

Let me finish the sanding and fillets and I'll get back to you.

Love it....and the fin pods are a great addition.

I was thinking that when I first saw it. I would have gone with corn-dog sticks though.

Tardis? Astrid? Can they only afford 6 letters over there?

I’ve built and flown several Squirrel Works kits - nice stuff. The Dogfight and Arapaho-E are on my someday list.

They call it a "Police Box" not a Tardis.--Time And Relative Distance In Space.

The BBC has a copyright or something on that name but when finished we all know what it is.

Oh I see.............so it was just a co-ink-adink that the same six letters were used in your post.

I say Tardis, you say Tardis, the lawyers say Police box.

As for the Astrid...primer coat finished.

I just need to get some silver paint at the auto parts store.

I like Dupli-Color silver. ;) ;)
