would like to start collecting
Hello I would like to start collecting kits , what would be the best way to approach this ? Don't want to pay max for a kit , thinking picking up some current kits and some remakes and some from small companies. Then sit on them and add when I find something what would be a good gage on current value on a kit thanks chris

Collecting current kits? AC supply for Estes, Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, Semroc of course w/ NAR and SAM discount, bargain sites such as Hobbylinc, ebay after you look up the retail price, etc.

Gerry Fortin's site provides pricing on Estes Kits to get an idea of what people are looking for and willing to pay for kits.

Thanks I have the site booked . Wish there was a up to date price guide for kit values . But that would be a pain to do . Thanks chris

Buy kits and never build and fly them? Why?!

Same here like collecting older kits... couldn't afford them as a kid. Now I had around 1600 kits in storage, NV. Only like,e building flying newer kits. |

I couldn't afford them as a kid and definitely can't afford the same ones now! But why are we drawn to collect them? It's what I call the Sealed Box (or in our case, Bag) Syndrome. It's a way of momentarily re-experiencing that joy you felt as a kid when you first saw them in the store, or the excitement from all the potential that could come from completing the kit. It's the same for plastic models. It's exhilarating. Of course in real life, once you opened that bag the little parts started getting lost and you'd get bewildered by the instructions and miss a step, glue a part in the wrong place, find out too late that your paint was too old and end up with a gloopy paint job. No, the sealed bag was definitely the best part. |
