The Mosquito Truth that I'm Loathe to Confront
2 Attachment(s)
Between Balsa-Coned Cloned Kits (BNC-5V) and PNC-5V Fantasy, have I stumbled 'cross epiphany? There must be a height difference between the two build methods, right? The BNC and PNC with its base have completely different shoulder heights. TK-1, #0801, they can't both be 3.9" in height, right? Oh, I'm so confused! If someone'd just set me straight, I could start gluing!

They look OK. Just keep building and don't think too much. You'll be alright.

Okay, Astronwolf! Just so's you know then, the brown BT-5 that I got with the Balsa-Nosed Clone kit is 1.75". The white tubes for the PNCs are 2". Make Sense? Seems legit, given the extra shoulder of the PNC. I'll marry the correct tubes to the corresponding cones and let All Else be ****ed! My Skeeters will be different heights, but I'll keep 'em apart. Can you imagine all those short Skeeters in on space, with only .25" differentiating them? A Bloodbath.

I'm still confused.

Has the Mosquito always had a BT-5BJ?

Am I confused about the Shoulder Plug on the PNC Part?

The correct Mosquito body tube length is 2-inches. So you want to match long nose cones with short tubes? Quote:
If I were for some reason interested in building mosquitos, I would toss the 1.75" tubes and replace them with 2-inchers. I'd also cut the shoulder in half with a saw. You don't need that anchor point for the recovery system anyways. But not worrying too much about it is not a bad option because these are, almost, fire and forget rockets. |

That's a dorky looking nose cone shoulder. If that strange loooong-o shoulder is what is confusing, then nuke it. You only need a 0.25-inch long shoulder or less. |
Just don't let them cross-breed
Could lead to TEOTWAWKI

Doesn't matter. You'll likely never see either again. At least in one piece.
|
Where did this 1.75" BT-5 come from? Is that all it took to get me spun? I'll use my 2 inch BTs, and cut 2 inchers. The PNCs need to be used without the bottom plug, and the engine is not expected to seat completely against the BNC. I can deal with that.
