Interesting...it seems as if Centuri's kit packers sometimes "just threw whatever #7 roll pattern decals they had in stock in the kit bags." They should have added a notice saying "Style may vary slightly" or "Decor scheme suggestion" under the kit card illustrations. :-) Also:

Since Semroc is interested in offering historically accurate "Retro-Repro" kits, this means that they could include the helical checkerboard roll pattern decal in both their Micron and Javelin kits and they would be historically authentic reproductions. (I have nothing against putting that decal on either of these rockets, as it is an aesthetically pleasing design.)
