To be honest, I was surprised as well to see it go for that final bid. I too did not know it was quite in that rare range, though I knew I'd personally never seen one come up for bids. Then again, if an item turns out to be 'just the item' a particular collector is looking for ("Ahhhh.....the only item in my Centuri launch gear collection I don't have!"), then they are probably willing to pay a chunk to get it.

GH, I'm about like you. I was gonna go maybe up to $150 for it, but I never even bid on it once it got up to the $193 range sometime yesterday.

In similar 'news', the Centuri Power Systems set and the Centuri Eagle 1999 set (both offered by Penn Valley Hobby Center, I think....same who listed this launcher) went for over $200 each right about the same time this eve.
