The booster "stage" is a slip-over friction fit on a pair of taped engines, right? No coupler (obviously, since it's a BT-50 main tube...) of any sort.
The D12-0/D12-7 and C11-0/E9-6 combos appear to have the best Dv numbers. With a bit of trimming (or lengthening), I bet you could get those numbers down to something even more comfortable (lower Dv is nearly always better ).
