Button and Carpet thread was certainly the standard for making 'chutes away back in my first rocketry period (1967-74 or so). I've tried to find it and it's not as widely available as it once was. I've also purchased some shroud line material from Semroc a few years ago, which certainly seems to be the same or similar stuff.
