Already thinking in a similar direction...
Synology 2-Bay NAS
Western Digital 2 TB Drives (2 of them)
I've got about seven USB cases with drives in them. They're good, useful, and relatively cheap; but I'm really looking for NAS this time. The above system allows for RAID (mirroring).
