A few others that have stuck with me for 50 years in addition to the more common Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Grover, Oscar, etc. are:
Marvelous Martha (MMMMMMMM, Martha! cartoon segment)
Wicked Wanda (cartoon segment)
Yip Yips (aliens......cow, book, telephone)

Ironically, some folks criticized that "sponsorship schtick" as "enticing children into crass commercialism," but I always found it--like Guy Smiley's and Kermit's send-ups of game shows and news broadcasts, respectively--charming. Most of what I recall from those distant days is that Oscar was orange before he was green, but I was only 3 when the show started. :-) I vaguely remember those other characters and segments, and also the (James bond/"Get Smart"-inspired?) "Shh! Right..." 'spy character.' (oddly, I'd remembered Bip Bippadotta's song, but not his Muppet-character). I'd bet that none of the human actors, way back then, ever dreamed that they'd still have the same jobs, playing the same characters, almost five decades later...
