You could have just cut a bit off the tip to make the tab, it would be marginally shorter, and I use a dremel for my slot cutting, but in any case, water under the bridge

If the fin tip mated to the little span of body tube, rather than one of the pod's cones, I might have tried.
Fingers crossed, the retrofitted recovery system will provide a slow decent.
The model will sit "in primer" until I get back from visiting family back east. So I have primer sanding to look forward to. Ecccchh!
