Default Vintage Estes Bandit build

Now that I am done with my Tomcat, I decided to start on my Estes Bandit build. This is a unique model that does not use wadding. Should be a fun build and I am interested to see if the ejection system works.

I have the balsa filled and rocket built. The ejection system looks cool and I hope it works. Everything is drying and still have to insert the trifold shock cord mount and 36 inch rubber shock cord. I will begin painting next week, since I will be busy this week. I have tons of old Krylon but I will be using the new formula Grey Primer. I have experimented with this primer and appears to be better than the old stuff. I used the old style Krylon paint over the new primer with no issues.

I primed my Bandit today using the new Krylon Grey primer. This is an improvement over the old grey primer. It is sand-able after one hour and does not gum up like the old Krylon grey primer. This stuff is great and I will definitely buy more. I normally only shoot one coat of grey primer, sand most off and hit with flat white. I don't apply multiple coats of primer to fill spirals or grain so someone else will have to test the new primer for that mode of application. I still have a few cans of the old grey primer and I will only keep those as back ups. The only thing I don't like is the new spray nozzle. It seems to me that I am wasting my primer since the pattern is so wide. Here are some pictures of the grey primer, the flat white is now drying but I will post pictures of the white rocket later.

Well I am all done and everything came out ok. The decals are old so they took major TLC to lay done smooth. I tried Frog tape for the first time and I was not too impressed. I will stick with my Tamiya tape. The weight is at 2.5 oz. Time for my next build.

Tried to take a picture of the glossy fins and the camera's flash makes them look dull. Oh well.

Wow, time goes by.
Almost 5 years later now..

Scigs, if you're still hanging around the forums and had a chance to fly this bird,
I'm curious to know how the baffle system worked.
