I would want it just for the fin can. Alas I didn't buy a lot of Quest parts in 1992 like I should have. I do have a bunch of Tomahawk fin cans, though; one MPC and the rest Quest. Made from same mold but you can tell the difference in the plastic quality between the MPC pieces and the Quest pieces.

Me too, at least B3-3. IIRC, Red Arrow had a bunch of MPC motors at NARAM 49.

Yeah. I can access Flickr here, but not PhotoBucket. I was hoping it had pics of the parts. Looks like a fun bird.

I bought & built a Redstone Maverick when I was eight or nine. A local hobby shop carried MPC kits.
I remember being so puzzled by the kit. Was it a scale model? It sort of looked like one. I still have a piece of MPC body tube, with those plastic fin mounting rings glued on it. It might be the Redstone Maverick, or one of MPC kits I bought from AVI in the mid 70s. The two MPC kits I have intact are a Pegasus II (the multi-stage variant) and a Moon-Go, which I hope to repaint. |

I've got the Icarus-C, built, but only half painted, the Flare-Patriot, built, painted, and flown once into a lake , the Lunar Patrol still in the box awaiting inspiration, and the Nike-Patriot, built and half painted, but flown several times.

I believe I have the plan here somewhere. Scott, if you need it for the YORP archive, let me know and I'll get a scan to you.

If needed, I have an original kit, box pretty well destroyed, contents intact, that I can scan. The nose cone is the same as the Moon-Go as seen here http://www.oldrocketplans.com/mpc/mpcR-841/mpcR-841.htm they just added a length of BT to the top of it. The Fin can setup was used in others as well, such as the "Martian Patrol", and at one time was offered in a "parts" kit.

Yes, between Joe and Mikey I'd appreciate scans of the plans/parts. Thanks!

I launched a couple of MPC A3-2's from the late 60's a couple of weeks ago. The first rocket (streamer recovery) had a melt down about 50 ft off the pad. I read the term "skunked" somewhere...thats what I would call it. Destroyed. So of course I had to put another one in a Semroc spaceman. That sucker when up in a cloud of smoke, sparks and stench that was quite impressive. Awesome. Went pretty high too. No ejection though and the spaceman came down head first on a cement path, trailing smoke the whole way. The spaceman had a broken arm, a flat head and a little neck damage but will live to fly another day. So I guess the point is don't fly old MPC's in anything you value until you test them out first, although I value my remaining stash for the above reasons. |
