Anyone else find this fishy?
There's a auction on ebay (item #112350895306) advertising a vintage store display of Centuri rockets. It looks really cool until you realize it cannot possibly be vintage. First, it looks brand new - not especially well-built (screws are coming up through the bottom) but the wood looks new and the glass has no dust or signs of age at all. Second, there is a Jaguar with an SLS decal. Centuri never used that naming convention for their kits - only Semroc did. Also there is a large Javelin model. The Javelin was a small diameter model - (18mm). This one looks to be about BT-55 diameter. These are both clearly Semroc repro kits. The SST shuttle label has a CC: at the beginning, a name used by Carl for his clone kits that did not include instructions. Also, I have been building models since 1971 and still have most of my collection. These rockets are bright white with no decal yellowing or cracking. None of my models that are old enough to be in this display look that shiny and new. One last thing, the kit names are printed on paper and not by a typewriter. This was difficult to do before the advent of desktop computers and laser printers. Tell me what you think.

Please tell me this isn't so. I hope the seller doesn't have any success selling them to rocketeers who are not as well informed.

The Jaguar has the "SLS" decal on the body tube. I think that was a Semroc upscale version of the original Centuri design. If so, these are more likely Semroc Retro-Repros instead of the original Centuri rockets.

Hey Sheryl, Good to "see you" online. I wish it wasn't over something like this. The more I look at that auction the more I dislike it. Also, I don't know what is meant by "pro-built" here. These models look to have been painted without using any masking or balsa filler. If you're gonna fake something, at least do a little research.

Only a total dimwit would fall for this sort of baloney.
That said, I know of no right within the U.S. Constitution owing ANY sort of protection to the STUPID. To those I say "Caveat Emptor, Pal !!!"

They're only hurting themselves if they only got $99 for that! Wonder if they're selling something they got cheap off an estate sale?

I don't think ebay should pull them off or have any sort of "counterfeit" protection AT ALL.
If someone is STUPID enough to fall for it without doing proper research....SUCKERRRRRRRRRRR ! That should all fall under BUYER due diligence.... However if the seller is deliberately being a LIAR without revising a listing after someone points out inaccuracies, that is different. Caveat Emptor, PAL !
