Default Can waterslide decals be removed?

Is there a way to remove water slide decals that doesn't wreck the underlying surface? Im not trying to save the decals.

This stuff should work--so long as the model hasn't been clear coated over the decals.

If they haven't completely dried, Scotch tape works.

Put the tape on some glass and peal it off a few time.

This gets some of the glue off so it won't damage the paint.

Gordy is right, he would know!

Removing decals depends on the decal, how long they've been on the model and the paint they are set down on.

I start with Scotch tape first. You can also use masking tape but with the clear tape you can see what you are trying to lift.

With some of my home print decals (if they haven't been clear coated) I was able to peel them off with tweezers once I had a corner to grab onto.

They are Gordy's decals (we got confused on the scaling for this project) sprayed with Testor's clear acrylic (I think) and laid down on Rustoleum Painters Touch just about a week ago. No clear coat over top of them.

Does anyone know what's in the microset? I'm chemist enough to improvise a bit.

Windex or ammonia will remove the acrylic and expose the decal material.

Either Microset or Microsol smells like vinegar. Can't remember which.

Micro-set has Acetic Acid (Vinegar) in it; this substance helps decals conform to the surface.
I honestly don't know what is in Micro-Sol but I bet you could look up the MSDS on it.

Looking up the SDS (the new EU conforming standard) was a good thought. But all it says is that the ingredients are considered non-hazardous.

So I used warm detergent water - about a 20sec massage - then lifted the decals with scotch tape. Rubbing the tape flat made a color change in the decal as its bond shifted.

Thanks, all, for the tips.
