I will be perfectly happy to lend it out to be scanned, though. It's in great shape. I'll send it if needed!

Thanks again to everyone for your help.
I thank you for including me, but David Stribling took the plunge and risked his copy (and then scanned it and e-mailed it to Peter). ALSO:

The "blue cover" book (the front cover shows an Astrobee 1500 in flight) that tbzep mentioned is rare and very special, because it was Peter's first one (I lost my copy in a move...*stamps hoof in frustration*). Its full title--if I recall correctly--is "Scale Model Rocketry: A Guide for the Historian-Craftsman" (or possibly 'Historian/Craftsman'). I'd happily buy a POD published re-print (or a few...) of it if Peter re-issued it that way (CreateSpace.com and Lulu.com POD publish softcover and hardcover books, as well as pay-to-download E-book editions). A PDF scan of its pages--and a second PDF scan of its front and back covers--are all that Peter would need to upload to his seller page on either POD publisher's website in order to sell copies of the book (a link to my [Lulu.com] POD published book is directly below, in my sig file).

Not much risk...I googled wire bound books and I will be able to put it back together...actually I'd been wanting to scan it for years to have a portable copy...having The Man himself give permission sort of pushed me over the edge so to speak

You know I haven't spent a lot of time in the back of the book for some time, and was really surprised to see all the plans Peter put in the volume! I hope he doesn't mind, but I am going to post the Table of Contents page so you can see!

I am glad to hear that (that your copy didn't have to be sacrificed for this purpose). Thank you for posting the book's Table of Contents page! Judging by the scan quality, the book file should be great. In fact, people could download and print it (printing the front and back covers on card stock, if desired), and have the pages and covers edge-punched and wire-bound (or comb-bound, with a plastic booklet binder--clear plastic cover protectors could also be added) at a print shop, to create their own books.

The crowning achievement of the book was sheets of color decals were sold that included all the rockets in the book. It would be great if a decal scan could be added to the book PDF. See this thread:

I had forgotten about those! If it's okay with Peter, and if he (or someone else, such as Gus [see: http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showp...454&postcount=1 ]) could scan his or her two-page decal sheet (if Peter doesn't have one anymore), that would be a very useful addition to the downloadable book PDF!

I don't have that, but it would be cool!

I scanned the front and back covers in color

I have a copy of "In the Shadow of the V-2", if anyone is interested. I think I could hunt it up and PDF if fairly quickly.

I got a chance to talk to Peter at NARAM this past weekend, and put him in touch with NAR President John Hochheimer about where to put a PDF of Art of Scale Model Rocketry.

Sounds like once the combined PDF is ready it will be available to download from the Scale Modeling page of the competition section. This is on the public part of the site (no membership or login required) to meet Peter's wish that the information be free for anyone to have.

Thanks to David for putting in the work to scan the book, and thanks for Peter for allowing it to be posted.

Kevin
