When Jeff say's he used 4 coats of Aerogloss SS on the fins.........

He actually means 8!!!

Are you sanding between each coat of Aerogloss SS, or putting on a few coats then giving it a sanding and applying more and more sanding?

I sand after each coat.

1st coat, sand with 320
2nd coat, sand with 320
3rd coat, sand with 320
4th coat, sand with 400
gray primer, buff with 0000 steel wool
white primer, buff with 0000 steel wool
paint
decals
gloss or dull coat
scotch wiskey

1. Apply sanding sealer.
2. Apply another coat without sanding before.
3. Sand 220-320
4. Apply sanding sealer.
5. Sand 220-320
6 Apply sanding sealer
7. Sand 320-400
8. Use a good primer, this is the key. I use light coats until smooth or until I see a major flaw that needs fixing.
9. sand until smooth.
10 Apply base coat, normally flat white for me.
11. Then I go straight to my final coat, no sanding before or after.

Good point! After ALL of that work, don't use a crappy primer or top coat!
