For those of us who might also be interested in cloning this one, am I mistaken in thinking this is the same NC and nozzle piece that is currently found in the QCC Explorer?

Only things extra we would need for a clone would be a decal sheet (Sandman?) and that gold foil sticky-back wrap (gold trim MonoKote? Or even a gold leaf kit from Hobby Lobby?). The QCCX kit has everything else already in it.

Do-able...

He used to tell hobby distributors that AeroTech was out of business. When I would call a hobby distributor and asked why they had not ordered in a while, the distributor would often respond, "I heard you were out of business".

AeroTech did sue Estes. There was a settlement but the damage was done.
OK, I'll add that to the list of things that I missed out on during my Rip Van Winkle period. The early Barry Era is not one that I am all that anxious to visit with my time machine.

Except that I would not be too ready to cannibalize a kit that I like in order to reproduce another kit that I like. I would regard that as a net loss. I'd rather buy individual parts and reconstruct the target rocket from scratch.

Get the sacrificial fodder from Hobby Lobby with a 40% coupon, then use the balsa parts on another project. Waste not, want not...

Yeah, I just paid $12 for my QCC Explorer. Like those 40% off coupons.

Love my vintage original Dark Star - already thought of cloning that when I saw the cone / nozzle available

My original kit awaits repair from an RMS-24 D9 cato ( forward blowthrough , not sure who's fault ). scortched the motor mount and rear of BT, should be easily fixed if I take the time to make up pts and rebuild....

As for Hobby Lobby, unfortunately the one near me only ever has 2-3 rockets at MSRP, same with motors, the local Michaels has better stock

No HLs where I live. The nearest one is a 3 hour drive from here. That kind of negates the 40% discount. Hobby Lobby only just began to open stores in upstate NY in the past year and I haven't been to one yet. Unless they open one up closer to me (if you saw where I lived you would agree that this is highly unlikely) then it will be a long time before I ever set foot in one.
